It shouldn't have anything to do with permissions. Basically "Internal error" means that the thread crashed while updating (not good). If you wouldn't mind, there should be an "error.log" file in your program folder. If you could copy-paste that here, that would be awesome. EDIT: I have also been informed of an issue you might see "Error - Internal Error." If this occurs, just delete the addon and then try "install new" and see if that works. This is not working as intended, but it is a temporary workaround for now.

As an update, I am able to reliably reproduce the bug and I have isolated the problem. It involves the backend encoding of XML on non-alphanumeric addons. I hope to have a resolution very shortly.

Are you guys using firewalls? If so you will have to explicitly permit the program, as well as the programs named "java.exe" and "javaw.exe." If you still have a problem, look for an error.log file in your program files and look for the relevant line that indicates the problem, and post it here.
