Petster  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 20100.00
by: Zuban [More]

Update: Unfortunately my WoW account is no longer active and as a result, I will not be able to maintain my addons. If an author is interested in picking up where I left off, they are welcome to. Thank-you to those who enjoyed using Petster and sorry for having to leave it behind.

Forum Thread

The successor to my previous Feed Pet Button addon.

Warning: This addon is no longer dependent on the ZubanLib addon. Please delete the ZubanLib folder from your addons (if it's still there) since it may cause conflicts with Petster.

Note: The Basic Feed Button addon is disabled by default. Go into the addons management during login to enable it.

A hunter button addon that can be configured to feed a particular food to your
pet when clicked. The button casts other spells when "Feed Pet" is not ready.

Other features:
Basic Feed Button: Simplified version of the main feed pet button that only
casts Feed Pet. The button hides when the pet is away. By default this addon
is disabled and can be enabled through the "Addons" menu during WoW startup.

Extended Pet Buttons: a set of regular action bar buttons that switch
based on the presence of your pet.

Available actions:
- casts "Call Pet" if pet is away
- casts "Mend Pet" if your or pet is in combat
- casts "Revive Pet" if targetting your pet's corpse or while holding SHIFT
- casts "Feed Pet" if pet is available and not in combat
- casts "Dismiss Pet" while holding ALT

To associate a food to a pet:
- Call your pet if it is away
- Drag the desired food from your bag onto the button
- Each pet family is mapped separately to it's own food so you may have to
repeat for each pet

Note: Since this is a class specific addon, it is disabled by default. Click
the "addon" button on startup and enable this for your hunter character(s).

DEPENDENCIES
The "Petster" addon is a library that the others depend on so it should always
be enabled. You may choose to enable or disable the other addons as needed.

For some reason, the Petster button re-centers itself in the middle of the screen every time I log into the game. If I move it and camp, then log back in it's still in the new position, but if I exit the game and re-log, it's back to the center again. Great mod despite this!

PetStuffBar is buggy & is mistakenly calling Blizzard protected functions. And these errors occur whether or not Petster is enabled. Have tried using it, but tons of such errors always occur with it enabled. Have given up on it until that author fixes it (have reported the errors on that mod's page on ui.worldofwar.net).

Petster v20000.3 works fine with the Blizzard Tame Pet button (and every other default Blizzard bar hunter button). Suggest that you use a bar mod actually designed for WoW 2.x, such as Bartender3.

Thanks for pointing out the un-updated file. The addon update admin page makes it easy to screw up. I usually double check because of this but I must have missed it.

sonofgloin, the reason the button doesn't disappear now, is because it turns into a Call Pet button. It seems like most people like the consolidated functionality. But there are others who prefer the original behavior so I'll likely work that in when I get around to making that happen.

Phurion, yes the original addon would check the player's class but that's only because I wrote it before Blizzard introduced that capability into the standard interface. When you log into WoW, click the "Addons" button and use the dropdown to enable Petster for your hunter(s) only.

If the pet isn't summoned, the button does "other" things. It's very useful in its current state, and frees up more buttons (mend pet, revive pet, summon pet).

However, it would be nice if it could disable itself if the class I'm playing isn't a Hunter.

Something like how MiniMage does it would be nice.

Code:
M_class = UnitClass("player");
if (M_class == "Hunter") then
  if (DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME) then
    DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("Petster Enabled! Hello "..M_class);
  end
 <enable mod>
else
  if (DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME) then
    DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("Petster Disabled! Sorry "..M_class);
  end
end
Just a thought. IIRC, didn't your previous versions work this way?

i'd really like to see the button auto-hide when my pet isnt there, no need to feed when he's not around anyway, right ?
(i have the button placed right under the pet frame, so it's kinda in the way if my pet aint there)

A big problem with v20000.1.

This is wrongly calling Blizzard protected functions when disenchanting. On a hunter that is an enchanter, of course.

Try to disenchant an item in one of my packs. The Blizzard "Addon blocked" box with the "Disable" and "Ignore" buttons popped up on screen. Every time I tried to DE the item, same thing. Had to disable Petster. Here is the full error (recorded with the BugSack/BugGrabber mod)

"ADDON_ACTION_BLOCKED:AddOn 'Petster' tried to call the protected function 'UNKNOWN'.\n<in C code>: ?\n<in C code>: ?\nPetster\\ZubanLib.Cursor.lua:29: in function `PickupContainerItem'\nFrameXML\\ContainerFrame.lua:558: in function <Interface\\FrameXML\\ContainerFrame.lua:555>\n<in C code>: in function `ContainerFrameItemButton_OnClick'\n<string>:\"ContainerFrame5Item12:OnClick\":3: in function <[string \"ContainerFrame5Item12:OnClick\"]:1>"

Has v20000.2 corrected this? I would not assume so as its not in the release notes.

20000.02 release

A few changes. Added Dismiss Pet capability. Blocked the revive pet cast when shift clicking while the pet is present. This should avoid the disappearing pet.

Couple things

First, thanks for continuing these great mods (since there were two before).

Second, I would like to be able to Dismiss my pet also with the button... There is a strange bug now where if you Shift-Click while you have a pet, it does disappear - but without Dismiss casting and my pet bar remains. Anyway, if you could add the ability to Dismiss your pet (and allow us to hide the drag handle when locked) that would be great.

Two comments related to things that I modified from the original addon. You folks really liked that old one

Thanks for the feedback. For my next push, I'll focus on (optionally) brining the functionality back to that of the original. I'm thinking of a slash command to lock and hide the mover and a command to remove non-feed actions.

Zidomo, I also noticed the Revive Pet disappearing act while I was testing. I suppose Petster makes it easier to accidentally trigger this. For now I'll assume Blizzard will eventually fix this bug and people will have to be a bit more careful in the meantime.
