Version: 5.7.138
by: Mikord, Resike

Announcements:

  • Version 5.7.134 is updated to work with Warlord of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 and fixes the font preview issues.
  • If you are having issues with the fonts "resetting" on initial game load, update to Version 5.7.137.
  • Version 5.7.138 corrects issues with several triggers like Kill Shot and Hammer of Wrath.

Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class (including CUSTOM_CLASS_COLORS support).
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

Nope, done everything listed there and it's still not working. After I add the soundfile, whenever I press "Play" no sound occurs. Any ideas?

Hai , I registered just to tell you ( well I also registered for thaks to the creator of that amazing Addon ) that I finally could find the solution to the problem that you are having ( if it is the same than me , that is nearly possible ) , just check THE FOLDER on where you are adding your .mp3 or your .ogg , cuz i was doing it wrong all time i was putting it on a C:Program Files(x86)/WoW/Interface etc.... and not on another folder created on C: Program files / WoW / Interface ... etc ( arriving till Sounds ofc ) , and that happened cuz I started to play again after a year and seems that the reinstallation of the files were made in another path , so check your path before making all the process!

MSBT Sounds

Hey, I've been using MSBT for a long time now and a year or so ago realized I could play sounds on events. I see now after reading a few posts that .mp3s no longer work, but do .ogg files work? I've tried my own .ogg files but they don't seem to work.

Is it just not possible to put sounds onto MSBT anymore?

Stanzilla: Thanks for the files. It looks like that version is just treating multistrikes as crits, which I don't really think is accurate, but I supposed that at least the data is somewhat there. As far as not being able to test multistrike, does holy have a buit-in chance for it? My disc priest has 0% chance right now (as do all the other chars), so that's why I can't test it.

Headhuntress: I've already lowered those max values to 3000 in a local version. I might eventually change them over to text boxes, but messing with the GUI is a huge pain, so for now, I'm just lowering it to values that make more sense after that stat squish.

Spam control

Spam control threshhold sliders seem to be broken for me. The first step of the slider is a weird float number(999.95..) and pretty much every number is like that(xx999.xxx). In addition to the weird numbers, they are also huge. First step for 1k healing is too much even before squish because of low level characters.

All three sliders have these weird floats, Damage/Healing cap at 100k, and Power at 2k. In the code the value step for Dmg/Heal seems to be 100, but for some reason it's increased tenfold.

Would it be possible in a future release to have a textbox to input your own value? Even if it's still capped at the same values, it would be much easier to use.

A holy priest might be a good way to test it, if you still have an active license atm. Otherwise here is the version I used, https://www.dropbox.com/s/1z92hzfhr2...ta-r5.zip?dl=0 a diff viewer might shed some light on things

I just removed all references to mp3s from the code and dialogs because the game no longer supports them. I guess I missed the references in the readme. Thanks for points that out.
Ooh, so PlayMusic() is no longer a valid API call? Sadface. And here I was about to go nuts with a boss music add-on...

EDIT: Hm, it still is, but according to the WoD Beta forums, it was changed to only play MP3s available within the game MPQ files.

Unable to add MP3 sounds via in-game options

You state in the README that the MP3 format is valid for sound files, in addition to OGG. However, your current code only allows for the OGG format. Starting at line 368 in MSBTOptions\MSBTOptionsTabs.lua:

Code:
local function MediaTab_ValidateCustomSoundPath(soundPath)
if (not soundPath or soundPath == "") then return L.MSG_INVALID_SOUND_FILE end
 local soundPathLower = string.lower(soundPath)
 if (not string.find(soundPathLower, ".ogg")) then
  return L.MSG_INVALID_SOUND_FILE
 end
end
The condition set in line 371 should be instead:
Code:
if (not string.find(soundPathLower, ".ogg") and not string.find(soundPathLower, ".mp3"))
 then return L.MSG_INVALID_SOUND_FILE
I figure it would be better to make the code consistent with the documentation, rather than make the documentation consistent with the code. Apologies if I'm overstepping any bounds as a first-time poster here.

EDIT: Hm, is MP3 no longer a valid format for in-game sounds?
EDIT 2: I'm a dummy. You'd have to write an additional condition depending on whether or not the file is in MP3 (PlayMusic()) or OGG (PlaySoundFile()) format. ;-; Whatever happened to function overloads, Blizz?

Welcome back mikord and thanks for updating!

I've been using a 3rd party updated version until now and it has some features that are missing in yours, namely multistrike support and showing gained absorbs, like when I give someone a Power Word: Shield it shows +300 Absorb.

Would be awesome if that could be added

Yeah, and that's why I'll probably never make an addon of my own.. or learn how to make them

I just try to pretend it all is just some sort of magic.

Thank you
Thanks for confirming.

So, the root of all of this is it appears Blizzard changed SetFont to dynamically load the font instance asynchronously and return false when calling it indicating the font is invalid instead of waiting until it's actually loaded to return like it used to. Once it has actually been loaded, things work as intended. I'm guessing it happened some time back in MoP based on looking at comment history.
