Visor2 (Ace2)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.0.2
by: Tenge [More]

This version is 4.3 compatible

Background:

There was little interest expressed within the Ace community for converting Visor from Ace to Ace2. As a long-time fan of this AddOn, that news didn't bode well for the upcoming (Burning Crusade) Expansion. I'd also been longing to ditch the old Ace libraries, since all of my other Ace'd mods are using Ace2 now.

What this version of Visor contains:

This release includes all of the functionality that I, personally, used from Visor. This includes: frame movement, frame scaling, frame alpha/hide/show, parenting, frame strata/level. This AddOn can be seen as an Ace2'd, lightweight version of MoveAnything or DiscordFrameModifier. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I've included more help within the AddOn itself compared to the earlier versions of Visor, where one had to research the commands on various Web sites. See the screenshot for a list of available commands.

Starting Tips:

"/vz set <options>" is the Heart & Soul of this AddOn.
Type /"vz help" for a rundown on the various options that can be used to modify frames.

Future Additions:

Ace3 conversion planned, once the libs are sorted out for MoP.

I'm hoping to increase the power of the "Frame Finder" functionality. Right now, this is identical to the original Visor, and is rather limited. It will only find top-level frames and not child frames that are deeply nested. For example, the Minimap is a conglomerate of many many frames. Currently the Frame Finder feature will only "find" the main MiniMap frame itself. I'd like to borrow some of Lozareth's ideas from DFM to provide the user with a more complete list of child frames, so they can pick one and assign it by name.

There are a few features from the original Visor which this version lacks. These deal mainly with frame textures, backdrops, button text and chat window & edit box skinning. I may or may not look into adding these at a later date, based on feedback.

Final Notes

This version is able to mimic all of the features that I used from the old Visor. If you download this and give it a spin, and find that the old Visor did something you loved that this one does not, post here and I'll take it into consideration. I've also flagged this as open for people to attach their own modifications. I'll take anything that's posted and see what I can do to work it into the main code.

I'm trying to find an addon that will aid me in scaling up the mouse-over tooltip for inventory items in my bags, or equiped in my character screen. Is there a way to do this with visor?

Bag names

Is there a way to get a certain bad in say bag slot three to always open in the same spot?

In other words currently the bags are opened and justed by the order the bags are opened, i.e the first bad opened is containerframe1, second containerframe2 etc...,

My issue is this, I always want the 3rd bag to open in the same place everytime. Furthermore, I would like each bank bag frame to always open in that same places according to which bank bag slot they are in, not the order which they are opened.

Can this be done?

Could someone please help me with this issue:Wowace forum original post

I have used Visor2 to move and rescale my bags and at first it seemed to work perfectly.

BUt if the UI reloads for any reason (like logging out and back in) the settings getts screwed up and look like this instead:

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/9428/err002ia0.jpg (the image is kinda big so i just link it)

the bag type and the actual items inside the bags are now offsynched from the bags themselves.

Hehe glad you noticed
I keep meaning to upload it here... one day I'll remember...

Ahh, I see.

This mod doesn't do anything with tooltips unfortunately, just the hard frames.
For tooltips, you might try TinyTip at http://wowace.com/files/ (grab the TinyTipExtras and TinyTipOptions too). I'm sure some other readers might have other recommendations too.

This doesnt help for my problem. I wanted to change to location of the ingame tooltip on items and move it farther away from mouse. The frame overlaps my bag window, so i dont see whats in it.

Sorry I've been away from this for a while - between holidays and collecting honor lately, you know how it goes.

To answer a few questions:

A complete list of frames isn't really feasible, since there are so many, and most mods create frames of their own with author-controlled names. What you can do, is open the Keybindings menu and scroll down near the bottom. There will be a section for Visor2 where you'll see four nudge keys and a frame-finder. If you set the frame finder keybinding and save, you can then return to the game, hover the mouse over the frame you're interested in, and press the new keybinding. This should make the frame "active" for Visor and will also print its name in the main chat window.

Note that some frames are nested below other frames, and this feature will only be able to "grab" the highest-strata frame under the mouse. I'd like to eventually add a feature to print out a list of all frames under the mouse, so you can see their names and use the command line to select them.

Regarding a GUI, I noticed that on the Ace file site, someone else (DarkImakuni) has uploaded a GUI plugin for Visor2. I have not yet tried this, but for anyone interested, you can grab it at: http://wowace.com/files/Visor2GUI/ (take the highest version #, or the one at the bottom with no number). I'm assuming that you'll download that mod and have it installed along-side this one. I'm quite supportive of this, and happy that someone took the plunge and started work on it.

And for Kyu, I think the keybindings suggestion above will be a good start to get you on your way. Set a binding for the finder, set the four nudge keys and you can start to play around with selecting and moving frames. For reference, the keys I use are CTRL+NPAD0 for the frame finder and CTRL+(4-arrow-keys) for the four nudge directions.

Another tip when moving frames around wtih the nudge keys: use the command /vz set n=##, where ## is the number of pixels you want each nudge to slide the frame. What I usually do is start with something like 10 or 20 to get the frame in the rough area, then /vz set n=1 to fine-tune it. The other commands like alpha, hiding/showing, etc are detailed in the /vz help. So you can read a bit more about other options from there. But for 80% of what this mod is useful for, the finder+nudgekeys will git'er'done. :P

Regarding trying to move/hide frames from other addons, I'm not sure what to tell ya. Those other addons create and maintain the frames with their own code, so in some cases, that code will take precedence over the settings from Visor. I've had some good success with hiding minimap buttons and such from other Ace addons, and a few others, so I think it just depends on which other addon you're trying to mess with. Sorry I can't be of more help here.

(Edit: It puzzles me though that you say Visor has no records/data for some of the frames after relogging. The fact that other addons manage these should not affect the saved-variables data for this mod. *scratches head* I may download and test one or two of those at some point and see if I can replicate your problem.)

Can anyone tell me how to actually use this mod? For those of us who haven't seen visor up until now, all I can gather are the things shown from /vz help ... but I'm still lost.

I have the same prob, but in a dif manner, I use visor to move my minimap buttons to a different area, when I relog half the time they've all reset to the minimap, but it seems to remember their settings because sometimes when I open a window they all 'pop' back to their moved locations.
this can get very anoying, if anyone knows something about this, some advice would be appreciated.
