Chinchilla Minimap  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v2.13.0
by: ckknight, Ravendwyr

Chinchilla Minimap alters the Blizzard Minimap in a way to provide much nicer features and other niceties.

Appearance

Allows changing of blip size (useful since 3.1), border style, shape of the map (doesn't have to be circular, or even square, lots of options are available), size, etc.
Auto zoom
Zoom out the map automatically after 20 seconds (or so).
Compass
A more flexible north-east-south-west indicator.
Coordinates
Show your location coordinates
Expander
Make the minimap very big temporarily (good for gathering or finding a tough-to-spot enemy).
Location
Show the name of your location more flexibly.
Move buttons
Move the buttons around the minimap to wherever you want (even off the minimap entirely).
Ping
Show which team-mate pinged the minimap
Position
Position the minimap and frames around it.
Range circle
Show on the minimap where your range extends to
Show / Hide
Show or hide various frames related to the minimap
Tracking dots
Change the dots on the map to a different set of images. Very handy, especially if you suffer from colorblindness.
Wheel zoom
Mousewheel to zoom the minimap

New version

The only bug I've found so far is that the coordinates sizing doesn't "stick". Every time I switch toons, it needs to be re-adjusted.

I did not make the artwork and sadly lack the skills to make more.

However if you or someone you know wants to make some artwork they are more than welcome to.

2.5.14's quest tracker resize control is still working just fine in wow patch 5.4.
I took it out as I felt it was outside of this addon's purpose, but I will be bringing it back Soon(TM) as I have received several messages asking me to do so.

Quest Tracker options gone in 2.6 = obscured tracker

Is there some reason the quest tracker option to change the height of the tracker was removed?
2.5.14's quest tracker resize control is still working just fine in wow patch 5.4.

After updating to 2.6, the quest tracker ended up partially obscured by the minimap, being far too tall.
The only fix within 2.6 was to unclamp from screen and drag the quest tracker partially off-screen.
Reverting back to 2.5.14 restored the quest tracker to its expected location, below the minimap.

Thanks for such a cool addon, it is on my short list of addons I'd really HATE to ever do without.

I have a problem with the yellow quest target arrow which is driving me crazy. Namely, that I can't get rid of it if I have, even briefly, showed the quest targets in the map and toggled them off again, none of them being tracked either. While I'm sure this is a problem in the Blizzards end and I seem to recall modders couldn't do much for the locations of the map icon elements, I was wondering if it would be possible to retexture that arrow with transparent texture? After all Chinchilla is capable retexturing the tracking points.

It's a bug in Blizzard's code I'm afraid.
I don't know if I can fix it or if it's something that Blizzard needs to fix themselves.

I'll keep an eye out for fixes or a workaround but for now there's nothing I can do. Sorry!

Buttons

Hello,

To keep this short, the "Button border opacity" option does nothing for me. If you could get this corrected that would be awesome.

Thanks

@Ethan Centaurai - I added two "enhancements" to the ticket system, figured I'd mention here in case you don't immediately spot them. I assume that's the correct place to ask for enhancements, and not here in the addon comments.

I'm comment 100, nice.

To be completely honest, the alpha settings have never worked properly.

I think I'll just get rid of it, or maybe replace it with a Hide In Combat/Out of Combat toggle.

Changing minimap Opacity to anything other than 100% causes a strange bug in certain of multilevel maps (like the Cleft of Shadows in Orgrimmar or any of the hallway tunnels between the different Valley area or entering the city for example).

At 100% everything works as intended. At any other opacity, zooming in/out will cause the map texture to blackout. Player location and blips still show, just not the actual map. Changing Opacity back to 100% again fixes this.

I was able to reproduce this with a fresh install (using the current 2.5.5 version and a blank Chinchilla Saved Variables file) using the default profile with all other addons disabled.

I'd like to apologise for my lack of input on here. For those of you who follow me on Twitter you'll know that I have been suffering from manic depression and mild anxiety for a long time now. It cripples me and the medication I currently take does nothing to help.

I haven't left the game or given up programming. In fact, I still very much enjoy both of these things.

Chinchilla Minimap will be updated to work with Mists of Pandaria. Here is a working beta version for those who want it.

Please understand that this is an incredibly difficult time for me.

But I haven't given up.

Not yet.
