NameViolation  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.43
by: Wachunga [More]

by Wachunga (Maelstrom-US)

Simplifies reporting names that violate the Naming Policy.

Update June 2009:
Check the "Optional Files" tab for the latest version, now maintained by Fincasann in my absence. Thanks Fincasann!

Version History
1.43 - September 16, 2008

  • now works correctly with most recent patch (use the "Report Issue" button)
  • simplified auto-removal of reported names: user is now prompted whenever submitting a ticket
  • added some colour to UI messages
  • removed "skip windows" option, since the default help menu was simplified by Blizzard in 2.4.3
  • removed "no response" option, since Blizzard added "Report Issue" button that requires no response by default
  • added new slash command for switching language of report message (/nv language) for players with English client playing on German servers. Note: the options interface will include this in a future version.
1.42 - May 13, 2008
  • fixed minor issue related to replacing enchantments
1.41 - April 14, 2008
  • fixed minor settings initialization issue
1.4 - April 13, 2008
  • added a checkmark in the popup menu for already-reported players (beside the chosen category, if any)
  • added realm name to GM reports
  • disabled reporting in battleground and arena matches
  • fixed German localization (typos, encoding)
  • fixed display of ctrl/cmd for pc/mac
  • fixed /who guild name reporting issue (introduced in 1.3)
1.3 - April 11, 2008
  • German localization now included (thanks Bl4ckSh33p!)
  • report instructions now correctly display on first use only
  • improved pet detection, fixing some pet reporting issues
1.2 - April 10, 2008
  • now localization-ready
  • added reporting instructions on first use
  • improved keybinding error-checking
  • added limit to number of names per ticket
1.1 - April 7, 2008
  • added "Das Konsortium" to list of RP realms
  • some saved variable optimization
1.0 - April 6, 2008

Features
  • Allows right-clicking on targets to record naming violations. (Or just use the provided keybinding.)
  • Also works for names in chat, who list results, etc.
  • Supports player, hunter pet and guild names.
  • * When creating a ticket with 'Report Issue', the full report is shown for easy copy and paste.
  • Names are automatically removed once reported.
  • Fully customizable via interface options.

Q&A

Q: Why can't I report names in battleground/arena matches?

1) You should be focused on winning the match, not reporting people.
2) You are more likely to report people in anger (because they clobbered you, etc.)
3) Players may be from all different realm types, and some violations don't apply to certain realm types.

Q: Why do users of NameViolation have to copy and paste the ticket message?

A: Because of the recent addition of the "Report Spam" feature, Blizzard assumed that there was no longer any need for reporting addons and removed the ability to automatically create new tickets. Yet the process to report Naming Policy violations remains very inconvenient.

Until this is addressed (suggestions have certainly been made), NameViolation works around this oversight by showing the report message in another frame for easy copy and paste. Note that it is currently impossible to directly set the text of the ticket window, or else that's just what this addon would do.

Q: Is this addon legal?

A: This addon does not allow players to do anything they cannot already do -- it just makes life easier. For example, players can already keep a list of names and report them using copy and paste. With NameViolation, there's just less alt-tabbing and/or scraps of paper to worry about.

If you're still not convinced, see the Mods FAQ on the official forums:

hell yes

If I ever come back to WoW, I'll be learning LUA just to fix this.

Or rather:

http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=39904

Someone needs to build a mod to make it easier to report people.

Single-right-click on their name in chat or the BG pane or target character portrait, scroll down to "report for repeatedly afk/botting/rude/name" and then have the name, server, time and reason automatically paste into a GM ticket, open or new.

Example:
<Name>-<Server>-<Reason>-<date_time>

Xnigthofdeahtx- - extreme rude/racist/threatening remarks instance Deadmines date_time_060609_163821
Jimmyarthass-Twisting Nether - botting AB instance #5 date_time_090609_163821
Lolturdxx-Ravenholdt - RP server naming violation date_time_110609_163821

As it stands, reporting botters in BGs just takes way too long time compared to the good that it does - the player reporting the botter sees absolutely no impact on the botter even after repeated reports. This isn't a perfect solution, but it does dramatically lower the amount of time it would take for an individual player to try to help Blizzard clean up this mess.

Could it be mis-used? Absolutely. But even trolls get bored, and a player making massive amounts of false reports will eventually be sanctioned. If you're like me and only report truly egregious behaviour like cursing someone out in party chat using words such as f***ot, n***er, c***-a**-b**** and such, together with names like "Internet" and "Turdburglar" on RP servers only (I couldn't care less about people's names in BGs since they're not bound by RP server naming conventions, unless it's something truly racist/derogatory) - then at least you have a quicker, easier way to deal with the problem and get back to enjoying the game.

For the love of Sylvanas, someone take this addon over if its no longer being worked on. I would, if I had any clue about LUA scripting at all.

completely broken in 3.3?

right-clicking on a name in a /who list or or on a target frame now doesn't even bring up a menu anymore, let alone with anything added to it

would dearly love a fix for this as my little RP realm is getting flooded with Loldeathlolx.

Known issues with 3.2 release

Hi all:

There is a known issue that effects your menus in the raid and other social menus, where some blizzard menu items will disappear when NV is loaded.

This is an apparent security/safety feature built into the blizz menus that will take some significant recoding to work with. This has probably been around since 3.0 or so.

I will be working on a solution for this, but no ETA at this time. Core functionality of NV is unaffected.

Re: fixed for 3.2

There is a known issue with the raid social tab where promotion items are disappearing. I am working on this, but you can help. I need raid groups to join to QA this issue. Send me a private message if you do regular raids are willing to have me lurk the raid to resolve the problem.

Thanks,

f

This makes a lot of sense to me as well. I'll see what I can do as an option.

I would prefer the addon saved 'NameViolation_Names' per server, so I can use the same pool of names for my different characters on the same realm.

How easy?

With this add on you can right click a name to add it to a list (queue). It generates the report for you. Try it out!
