BlackLoginScreen  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 30000.1
by: Mera [More]

MAC Users: See noble8's comment here for a client crash workaround on MAC systems

Not an addon just 2 empty files (mainly useful for an addon author that could launch/leave the client several times in a day, the default one is cool for a few days then overdose..)(UI_MainMenu_Northrend.M2 & WotLK_main_title.mp3) to lighten the client, it completely removes the background and music at the login prompt, so you don't have the annoying drake spamming your screen and I notice increase in the application launch speed here because of my computer a bit old now

1) Extract the files in your Wow root folder usually c:\Program Files\World of Warcraft for XP and C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\ for Vista
2) Make sure the extractor also extracted them with the full directories it's important to respect the packed paths to nullify the default movie and music files

Search friendly tags: black login screen change modify dragon drake spam sound silence m2 mp3

A black screen is not always nice, looks so boring. You can also try static image here, like screenshot from login screen instead of active 3D background.

And Blizzard has some WOLTK desktop wallpapers for it, try one?

well I can but that is not really the point to, I just made this pack almost only for addon authors that want the minimum at the boot time, I bet the subject is already not really approved by Blizzard so better to keep files that mod the really really minimum on a fan site, I just replace "fantom" files by 0bytes files, if you were looking for something that mods the client just for the look I think you won't find something here but you have to go on hacking site like mmowned but most of what they do is highly bannable because they are heavly modding the client by re-using Blizzard's arts which I guess are not free to use, take this one like a small patch for a cosmetic & annoying thingy plus using 0byte files shouldn't be seen as big offense to Blizzard since I just wipe() something I find useless, I'm sure I m not alone to think it =)
And technically that would not been possible I think because you want to place a BLP background to the place of a M2 movie file, I doubt the client will read it as a background file because you are forced to name it as the same M2 intro movie file, you could replace it for sure by a lighter m2 file yeah but there is no real gain to replace a movie file by another full movie file, that's more cosmetic and up to you to do that locally but not interested to post method to do that. Black screen is quick and cool to do!

I'm 90% sure i'll get a no, but is it possible to place an empty file just like this one over the default loading screens when zoning etc? ^^

Thank you so much, the default login screen took like 200% CPU on my computer. Typing at 0.3 fps is ridiculous.

I was so excited by this, I hate that stupid CPU hog of an animation. If I forget to close wow I come home and my machine is running the fan full speed.

However, on the Mac Client, for whatever reason, putting a 0 byte animation in the folder makes it crash. I wonder what format the .m2 file is actually in so I could make a single frame one.

seems it exist M2 importers for 3D studio max

or some more infos on the file M2 format

I guess if you have 3DSMax + modding a m2 file to make it just black background could do it nor try by searching a ligthen m2 file within your game client .mpq files with mpq extractors, you can probably find a smaller and valid one to replace the login movie.

Mac Fix

As stated a zero byte file: UI_MainMenu_Northrend.M2, crashes on mac's.
How about making it not zero byte but say 4 byte?

I got it to work on my mac by doing the simplest of things;

1) Open up the file; UI_MainMenu_Northrend.M2, in text edit.
2) Typed on the first line, "nothing here", write anything.
3) Save the file
4) it is no longer 0 byte, now 4 byte. Yay Mac's.

Install it as normal \\wow\\interface\\GLUES\\MODELS\\.. etc

And there is your fix, who said mac's cant right click
