For the missing backgrounds, try adding a reputation to be tracked as an exp bar in the rep window. This seems to be an issue with the artwork not liking there being no exp-like bars to show.
I'll look into the class colors when i can and issue a fix.

So, for some reason, I don't know if this is common or expected, or something to do with my specific setup (running WoW on Linux via WINE).
During normal gameplay, all settings completely max, I get ~90fps with 45-60% gpu utilization.

I think You've misunderstood. The picture presents one bar - in this case bar3. It consist of those 5 buttons I wanted and another leftover 7 (bigger ones) which game renders anyway, I don't want them to be displayed at all.
