I too would like to know this.

And thank you, very, very much for your support of the community.

It isn't a contest. If you have a current, legitimate mod on the site you are entitled to a key.
My understanding based on this statement is if you qualify you will get a key.

Cairenn 11-02-06 05:07 PM

That is 100% correct. If you have a legitimate mod on the site and apply for it, you get a key. Period.

I have written a couple of mods that I use personally but haven't uploaded to any site. One or two of them might be useful to other people; if I upload them now, am I eligible for the beta signup? I could really use a beta key to make sure my mods will work in the expansion.

*points up one post*

am i the only one who has been refreshing their email every 5 minutes :D

Xerogen 11-02-06 06:47 PM

Haha i am to man! Id like to thank blizzard and WoW interface for doing this, its amazing!

Cairenn 11-02-06 06:51 PM

LOL! Calm guys, it's be within the next week for those of you who were signed up before noon eastern today.

And we're very very happy to be able to do this, too. :)

pastarunner 11-02-06 08:01 PM

I just realized that I too also signed up with a different email address than the one that's registered to my WoW account. Cairenn, do you happen to know if there's a problem if that's the case?

Cairenn 11-02-06 08:14 PM

No problem. You don't have to be using the same email addy as the one on your blizz account, you just need to use one that you will check. :)

this is really great, i'm excited to see more mods for TBC :)

grats all!

Now what do you think?

An addon being submitted should be original work, not just some rehash of an addon that's been in existance for a while. It should also be useful to more than one person, and obviously have some application to the overall community.

Also, another reminder that submitting work that is NOT your own (To the point where people are literally copying the same .zip file and screenshot from another addon) is grounds for permanent banning from this site, and it goes without saying that that won't garner you a beta key.

Melek 11-03-06 10:56 PM

Whoa thanks for the quick reply Cairenn :)

I'm just getting desperate :(

Quick question as to this: if I have an addon I made for myself, that contains a subset of the same features as another addon, can it be submitted?

For example, someone on the WoWAce forums recently created an addon that displays a flight timer, and ONLY a flight timer, but the FlightMap mod exists that not only displays timers, but stores a database of route prices, route times, and flightpoint locations, and overlays these onto the world map - would the first addon be a legitimate addon, on the basis of not having nearly as many features that someone doesn't want (I recently swapped to the Ace'd addon due to it being smaller memory-wise with less bloat)?

Cairenn 11-04-06 01:13 AM

Yes it would.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Time to clean up the code and comment it so I don't destroy my pride and dignity posting it here :p
