SOLVED: Can't start it either

I can't start the application unfortunately. Tried downloading the alpha patch, no difference. The Hello World application runs just fine.

The error I get is (very detailed eh?): "wowuides has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvinence" (I'll download some debug app in a sec). If it's any help, the same thing occurs when I move the exe to an empty folder, so I don't think it's any of the libraries or additional files.

Solution: See Nulkris's post on page 3 for a working version.

That's exactly the message I got.

I can start and run it just fine.

I think that there's an issue with the .net framework you downloaded. You have installed the correct version and edition right? As you are from Sweden, Cide, I recommend looking for a Swedish version of the .net framework. It would also be a good idea to make sure that your OS is compatiable with the .net framework.

I'm in the UK, so I use the english version of the framework, and I can run it without a problem.

Cide 10-04-05 09:30 AM

I downloaded it twice to make sure, and I had it before as well.. The Hello World program Nulkris posted ran fine too.

Cairenn 10-04-05 11:40 AM

Neriak_x, where are you located? Cide is in Sweden.

Nulkris, any chance the problem has to do with the fact that they aren't running the US version of WoW and the US version of the WoW Interface Utility?

Cide 10-04-05 11:47 AM

Sorry Cairenn, I'm running the US version :).

EDIT: Though of course, it could be because I'm running the OS in swedish (Windows XP Pro, SP 2).

Cairenn 10-04-05 11:51 AM

Hey, worth checking out, right?

Cide 10-04-05 01:47 PM

Yep, definitely.

neriak_x 10-04-05 01:49 PM

I'm from Germany and running an german XP SP2 and my WOW client is also the german version.
@Nulkris: I've tried to start it without the manifest and config, it didn't work either.

Cairenn 10-04-05 02:26 PM

Swedish OS, German OS, anyone else see a pattern?

Nulkris 10-04-05 03:56 PM

I have a copy of Chinese Windows 2000 that I can try, hopefully that will exhibit this problem. We'll sort this out somehow~

Chinese Windows 2000 ran the program fine :( I am attaching another small program for you to try out for me, please run it a couple of times if it works the first time.

Well, it launched up just fine. During loading, I got this however:

Code:

Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

The property 'MainWindowLocation' could not be created fromo it's default value. Error message: 100, 100, 400, 400 is not a valid value for Int32.

And then when I pressed Details, this came up:

Code:

See the end of this message, instead of this dialog box, for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

After clicking Continue, the program seems to load fine however. Tried loading the program about 15 times now. The error only appeared the first time.

neriak_x 10-05-05 03:20 PM

Pretty the same like Cide at the first start, however after I've ran it 4 or 5 times it did work well without any error, plus the window positions were saved correctly. :)

Heh, its funny that it doesn't do a language invariant conversion when deserializing that property, makes it hard to set it up so it will work correctly on all languages. Anyway, will have to investigate that further.

About all I can think to do now is insert a lot of trace statements into the program so I can see where it is crashing, I will try to get to this today, but as you guys seem to play while I sleep, I guess I got a bit of time.

neriak_x 10-05-05 05:41 PM

Thank you, there's hope! :)

Please try the new patch and post the contents of c:\wowuides.dbg.

Cide 10-05-05 11:35 PM

Code:

Starting log for D:\wowuides3\wowuides.exe
    Creating MainForm
        Entering MainForm Constructor
            Initialising Form
Getting Form location from Settings object

That's it.
