Request for Volunteers

Okay guys, some of you have volunteered to help before, and we now feel we are in a position where we are ready to accept it. So, this is a call for some volunteers. We are only looking for a couple (we think) but we will have to evaluate it as it goes. This is what we are looking for:

1) A couple people to help with the actual programming of Minion, most specifically people that can help with bug fixes and/or improvement of heuristics. They will need to have the following;
- java programming experience (familiarity with OSGi a plus, but not required)
- strong backround in Object Oriented techniques, including typical design patterns
- familiarity with version control systems
2) Someone to help keep an eye on the bug tracker - confirming issues, marking reports as duplicates, handling feedback, etc.

If you have the time, interest and knowledge to be able to help, please post your interest here.

Thanks guys. :)

Please note: As much as we would like to be able to pay people, we aren't in a position to be able to do so. This would be strictly volunteer on your part.

I wouldn't mind helping out with the bug tracking side of things either. :)

I would love to help, but unfortunately my schedule is too crazy atm. So thanks to those of you who find the time to jump in and help with this awesome project. Not only will WoWI will be grateful, but the community as well.

xonefobic 06-12-09 01:57 AM

I can help if desired.
I know java a bit, have worked with it in the past.
Using Minion for a while now.

Tho im better in modifying excisting code then making it from scratch with java.
I'm willing to help in anyway I can.

As bugtracker I wont mind to lend a hand either.

Let me know if you would like my help through PM or Email (in my profile).

My Regards, XoneFobic

I know that a couple of people have already offered to help with the bug tracker, but if you still need more help I would be glad to lend a hand.

My feelings as well, Im semi-fluent in java but with designing my own MMO as well as my Warcraft obsession, and family and job, I'm a bit too busy for another project, so thanks to all who offer their help

I sadly could only help with the tracker as I have no idea what you do with coding... I mean hell in high school i had trouble with qbasic..... omg I dated myself there... I can write, I can do marketing, I can do "Office" sorta jobs... but coding... a 5 year old would be more help in that field.

If there is anything that I can do to help please let me know... I would be honored to help you all out... :p

Although I have experience with writing in Java, I haven't used any OSGi packages or framework before (curses- the one time my Java skill comes in handy, I'm still of no use).
Then again, babysitting the bugtracker sounds simple enough for me.

Application for bug tracker position

Hi Cairenn and crew,

I would like to volunteer for the bug tracker position. I work at Electronic Arts as a tester on a senior level. My daily responsibilities involve bug tracking software (DevTrack/DevTest) and I am active in open source bug trackers as well, such as for Ubuntu Linux.

I would love to help you out. :)

Tepel 06-14-09 09:05 AM

If help is still needed I'd be more then willing to help with either the development or the bug tracking. I'll leave it for you to decide what you'll trust me with ;)

I have experience in Java/C# and Python. I'm busy working on my bachelor's degree in engineering (3rd year). And even though I still consider myself a rookie (as far as programming goes) I think I can be of some help in that area.

AsheruWolf 06-14-09 09:06 AM

If you need help with the bug tracking/recreating I have been doing that for years as well as beta of various programs. Just let me know. :D

I thought you EA QA guys weren't allowed to breathe unless you had a controller in hand and a bug database to your right :-p

I've was wondering about that. I noticed Shirik hasn't been on the bug tracker for four days or so.
I have already found duplicate for one of my issues which didn't.

There's been a lot of offers for bug tracker, but I'll still throw in for it. If I knew programming, I'd throw in for that too.

I am a quick study, so if there are small tweaks needed, or code checking, I could do that. I am really good at cyphers and can pick out things that are not right (don't know how else to describe this).

Also, If it's a fairly straight forward programming, I'll be willing to make sure Minion "more info.." goes to the correct WoWI page. I found one that currently doesn't. I can also do it for grabbing the correct addon depending on how Minion matches the installed addon to the one on the WoWI site. This way the real programmers can concentrate on the more difficult stuff and not worry about these type issues.

I can only do it at night EST, work 12 hours, 7 days a week (the joy of being self-employed).

Anyway, hope things go good with finding some good coders. Shirik has gotten off really good start and Minion will be a more awesome client if everything works as planned.

Howdy,
I haven't been too active around here parts for a while, but I am interested in helping out with the programming.

I've just completed my Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Calgary. The large majority of my programming assignments and projects were completed with Java during my schooling, but I am fluent with a handful of other programming and scripting languages. I have a strong knowledge and experience with OO and design patterns. Finally, I have experience with both SVN and CVS for both personal and group projects.

Feel free to contact me if you would like some samples of my work, or would like to chat.

I don't know how much I personally will be able to help, but my research group at my University will be tackling the process of making a data upload / download (mostly upload) addon for a research grant we're doing. I'll be in over my head on most of the OSGi stuff, and it's been years since I did any real Java programming, but our on-staff Software Engineer will be helping out. So I can't commit to doing bug tracking yet, but if in the near future I find it's easier than I expected, I can try to help out :D

Layane 06-16-09 02:06 AM

I am software engineering, I have been programming for 12 years (7 with java, 10 with design patterns) and I used SVNs (Assembla, sourceforge and google code). I can give references, I worked for L2J project, here is an example of my work:

http://l2jserver.com/svn/trunk/L2_Ga...r/taskmanager/

And i know others techs: C, C++, C#, Objective-C, Pascal, ASM x86, Lua, Basic, V-Basic, HTML, XML, Javascript, Ajax, JSon, Soap, jsp/sevlets, Corba, mysql, oracle, sqlitle, php, etc...

What do you need karen?

aquafina33242 06-16-09 11:06 AM

Ill gladly work as a bug manager, I have plenty of free time and I feel that I work excellently with people. However I am 14, becoming a Sophomore in High School, don't know if that is a turnoff or not but figured it would be a good thing to know. Thanks for taking upon you the burden to start an awesome program!
