UI size

Hello, first I would like to say I like this addon alot.

But my main issue is everything is so god damned small Oo.. I have tried changing my resolution and everything but I practically need a magnifying glass to be able to read anything. I can't seem to find an option to increase its size, I tried resizing the ui through the video options but it was already at its largest.

It is bad enough that I will sadly be unable to use this addon unless someone can help me make crap bigger. I was really expecting it to be nice and large and clear like the screenshots showed at curse.com.. My eyes literally hurt from me trying to 'tough it out' and sit 2 inches from my monitor to see anything. Even at 800x600 res everything is tiny.

There is a FAQ on this subject here: http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=20917

That said, I could call 800x600 rez very low rez. But that's neither here nor there when it comes to the size of elements on the screen.

nUI is optimized for use on anything from a 17" wide screen on the low end of the scale to a 22" on the high end. At 17" some people will still find it a bit small and at 22" some will find it too big. You have to shoot for the majority on something like this.

Everything in nUI can be resized, but it requires editing the layout files to do it and, obviously, if you make everything bigger, then it's not going to fit inside the bounds of your monitor anymore, right?

Anyway, read the FAQ and see if it helps any. Other than that, there's really little I can offer. It's just not possible for it to work on every monitor size at every resolution out of the box. I can only do my best to make it work for as many as possible.

I appreciate your swift response. I increased my res quite high and used widescreen mode (my monitor is widescreen anyway) and I can at least read the chat text.. kinda.. So I am going to continue using it. If anything it will tell me when I'm too tired to play, when all the words just start bluring together cause my eyes are pooped XD

Guess I'm gonna need a larger monitor!

P.S. I love your sig "I have CDO." <-- hilarious

If chat text is all you are really worried about, you can set the font size in chat log options. If Blizz's fonts are not big enough (like me), I used Prat to change the font size even larger.

Or get something like clearfont for a better font.

I do plan on addressing the font issue in this weekend's update if I can find the right freeware (or freely distributable) font for the job.

I'm still open to submissions from anyone who wants to play around with it. I just need to know the name of the font you chose and a link to where I can download it from (with some kind of confirmation it is not violating any copyrights to do so)

A very good site for fonts that are free to use and in many cases distribute is dafont.com. Excellent site. I would imagine you will definitely find what your looking for there.

http://www.1001freefonts.com/faq.php is where I picked up morpheus font which i love I had posted a ss of nUI with it in the supporters forum I think. The site states:The majority of fonts on this website are freeware, but a small percentage are shareware so if you decide to keep any shareware fonts please register them. Registration information can be found on the readme.txt file attached. So you should be able to find basically any font you want here :D

I also had an issue with the size when I first used NUI. I play on on a 19" monitor at home, and a 15.5 wide when I'm on the road. My main problem I think was that before I used NUI, I used Bartender4 and made my main bar big. So the smaller size was a huge change for me. But after a few days and raiding with NUI, I realized (as a "clicker") that I didn't have to move my mouse so far to the next button (and/or portrait on the rare occasion that I heal). Now that I've gotten used to it, I love it. So I say, give it a few days. :-)

There are several points which are key to nUI's design philosophy and have been since day one. In order of importance to me...
  • Replace an army of more or less compatible mods (that are forever breaking) with a single well integrated mod that requires as little settup and configuring as possible.
  • Bring the key data elements together in on area in order to reduce the amount of eye movement required in combat as much as possible
  • As much as possible, try to move the center of the player's attention from the edges of the screen to the center where the combat action is actually taking place
  • Reduce the amount of mouse movement required to cast spells, target and otherwise interact with the game.
nUI has never been about being "pretty" -- I'm not that artistically talented. Those four things are and always have been what nUI is about. The thing that's amazing is that is a HUGE change from the default user interface and also a big change from the way most people organize their user interfaces... and it takes a lot of getting used to.

However, I honestly do believe that once you do get used to it, it can and will improve people's game experience (you see more of it) and game play (you are more aware of what is happening and can react to it more quickly) -- that is all, of course, just my opinion.

It's the getting used to it part that's hard.
