Finally getting a new computer!

A very generous friend of mine recently built a new rig, and offered to ship me his previous gaming computer, which should be more than sufficient to play WoW and other games at medium-high settings :D

I've already purchased Portal 1 and 2, the entirety of the Half-Life 2 series, Magicka, and of course I have WoW and a free copy of Diablo III (eventually :P). Now if only I could afford Skyrim....

The computer should be here and ready to go by Friday of this week, and I AM SO EXCITED. No more 13.3" screen at 1280x800 res, no more 4fps in any and all raid environments, and not nearly as many hardware restrictions on games :D FINALLY!

EDIT:

Portal 2: $7.49
The Orange Box: $9.99
Magicka: $2.50
Skyrim: $40.15

Borrowing money from your younger brother to buy the aforementioned games: priceless.

Congrats! What are the specs? How much (if any), did he charge you?

My previous computer:
- 2007 Macbook
- Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz
- 2gb ram
- Intel GMA 950 Integrated Video Card
- 13.3" monitor, 1280x800

New computer:
- Phenom II X2 Dual Core 3.4ghz
- 5gb ram
- Radeon HD 4650 (I think, I can't remember exactly)
- 20" monitor (I think), 1920x1080

I'm SO excited! I'll be able to play Diablo III, Skyrim, you name it :D Also, I'll finally be less limited when making UI's, which will be REALLY nice.

Actually, all I had to pay for was a new PSU, Disc Drive, Win7 disc, and HDD. Even then, a friend had an extra PSU, and my brother has extra peripherals, including monitors. In all, it has only cost me about $250 for all of it (minus the cost of games, of course ;))

According to him, it is! I had the same question, and he said that the specific kind of mobo/cpu combo apparently worked with odd numbers of ram. I assume it's 2-2gb sticks and a 1gb stick. Either way, I'm not complaining ;)

I am sorry, but how have you not been able to afford a new computer for 5 years? Getting a PC that runs the mentioned games shouldn't cost you more than 500$

How old are you?

I don't mean this as an insult, just curious :)

I'm 18, but my life has been a bit.... different than the norm. I've been in college since I was 16, and my free time has been pretty much all used for Boy Scouts and Karate (which I'm thankful for, not many people can say they're both a Black Belt and an Eagle Scout). Most of the money I earn goes towards gas and college, since having a GF who lives 45+ minutes away uses a lot. Basically, I haven't had the money to spare towards a computer for a while, so now that I'm finally able to have one, I'm so excited :D Now I have something to improve upon piece by piece, which is a whole lot more manageable on my budget than saving a bunch all at once.

Also, to clarify, this computer is a 2007 model, but I got it used in 2009. I haven't been sitting on this comp for 5 years ;)

Well, at least you got awesome games to play now. Good taste! :)

$500 is still a ton of money to most people.
