Just want to add ...

that as of 8:28pm PDT on Perenolde Carbonite is not working with the new patch 4.0. I won't bother to repeat the log errors. But it is bad as almost no addons are working at all. Carbonite is my life... to make us suffer using the ingame maps etc would be seriously inhumane! :p

Whist34 10-12-10 10:21 PM

Same error. Carbonite icon shows in game but nothing else. Unable to access options or menu through interface or /commands.

Clean install.

gadgetmama 10-12-10 11:00 PM

Carbonite not working here either

I tried reinstalling it, tried an older version, tried clicking on the addon's button that allows an "older version". All the latter did was disable the regular WoW map completely so I couldn't maximize it either with the button or the M key. :-P I miss carbonite. I've tried other addon maps. :(

Geneticus 10-12-10 11:47 PM

Carbonite is broken, primarily, because blizz deprecated globals: this, self, arg1 etc. about 4 years ago and finally removed all the old code that still allowed them to work.

After a brief scan through the lua file, (26,000 lines) about every function will need to be tweaked to conform the the (not new) event handling and conversion from globals to locals.:(

(no pun intended)

Carbonite

blizz don't like people haveing fun in a game or the carbonite min,map would still work they just like the money people pay to play there game they keep messing things up! and there lil round map they have needs to be kicked out for one it don't show u where ur dead body is and without carbonite map its hard to find cause its so much better then world of warcrafts map but everytime they come out with something new they screw something up but yeah i have used Carbonite for a long long time and i hope they do come out with something that will work:mad:

thetravellor 10-13-10 03:32 AM

Carnonite - no response

I dont get an error, carbonite simply doesnt load, ie press M - no map appears, quest list not there etc etc

Is carbonite discontinued? There were no test versions out during the PTR of 4.

Tincup 10-13-10 08:01 AM

Umm there are other ways to level. You don't have to rely on Carbonite. The default quest tracker works quite well now. I used Carbonite for years, but the updates have came slower and slower. So I looked for alternates. Zygor, Tourguide, and Wow-Pro are just a few options you can try.

And by the way it is idiotic to think Blizzard made changes to intentionally cripple Carbonite or hinder you ability to have fun.

Entropyutd 10-13-10 10:19 AM

I think most of us would appreciate a response from the devs on this.
Is Carbonite going to be updated anytime soon or should we look elsewhere?

Ice Cream Man 10-13-10 10:24 AM

I know there are others, i've tried others. Honestly though, none have really been as good as Carbonite. The built in quest tracker doesn't really work quite well at all. If it did their might not be so much work on alternatives.

I just hope that all the people who are complaining that it's crippled in 4.0.x are people who donate to the development of it. Otherwise there's no point in complaining. It takes time, and time cost money, tools cost money, etc. So if people expect Carbonite to remain the supper tool it has been so that we don't have to load individual add-ons for each function of Carbonite; we aught to pay up. I don't like having 20 different add-ons I like have the 5 or so I have, one of which is Carbonite because of how useful it really is.

I don't think there is any conspiracy to disable add-ons. Sometimes you have to drop reverse-compatibility in favor of new, more efficient code, efficiency, and features. After a while old code is just old code, and bogs the system/software. There are allot of things I like about the new built-in interface, but it still has all the problems and deficiencies that give me cause to want Carbonite to work.

Overall i just don't like not knowing, I would like some word from the Carbonite team on what's happening, nobody seems to know, and the site isn't exactly forthcoming with current info. Not to mention their site could be better too.

Heyrebaggins 10-13-10 11:42 AM

The main thing that upsets me is the loss of the map, and player tracking in pvp. I liked to track my rl friends when we bg together so its easier to stay together.

Unfortunately there in lies the problem, Carbonite developers (any addon developers at all) are not allowed to ask for money to develop their addons. Blizzard rules are very specific now and they are greedy they do prostitute....errr I...uhh... mean prosecute anyone and everyone.
They really dont like people making money from their game. Fair enough but if they worked with the addon developers and incorporated them into the game it would make life and therefore the game more entertaining.
Blizzard may not be out to quell our fun but they are definitely not trying to make it too easy.

Donations

If devs aren't allowed to ask for donations, then why does a certain other dev send emails to people asking for donations to meet a goal of monetary value. In each email it has the % of how close he is to his goal. I'm not gonna mention what addon or dev it is but i think most of us know.

haychip 10-13-10 12:38 PM

Update for 4.0?

Yes you can play WoW without Carbonite but I still miss it. Thanks to the developers. It has been the best and most useful tool I have ever used in WoW. I am going to donate as soon as I can. But the question is if there is a update that is being worked on for 4.0? Thanks again for this great Addon.

Devs are not allowed to make donating a condition of having the addon. They aren't allowed to code the addon itself to ask for donations. They are allowed to ask for donations outside of the game.

Good lord. Is being dense a new profession in WoW? You can ASK for donations anywhere but in-game. Please don't imply that someone is breaking the "law" when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Nice name, btw. Very fitting.

rastafaria 10-13-10 04:23 PM

I just have to make a commenet, usually dont say a word just read.

I am disabled with alzheimers and without carbonite am totally lost, with it I am only kinda lost.

please get it back on so I can find myself!

oh yeah, if I had enough to live on I would give every extra penny I had to carbonite to help, but alas..................

Guitarstooge 10-13-10 05:17 PM

Carbonite...

Well i used to pay for the subscription of carbonite and even donated a couple of times. back in early 2008 Iwould of paid double for the addon now even if I do donate no clue on if they will update it or not so until I hear word or see a update no more donations for me. I would even email them with quest updates etc. now not so much. But show me you are back and you will get a donation from me.

And blizz shame on you for not alowing people to make some cash on a quality software.
