WoW Scribblemaps
Hey guys, I was told that you guys might be interested in this new service I developed called WoW Scribblemaps:
http://wow.scribblemaps.com/#id=rqDfVEjUmn It uses the google flash api, so it is similar to MapWOW except it is faster on high end machines, you can draw on the maps and send them to friends, and there is also rapid location searching. I am not 100% sure of the capabilities of WoW addons, but in the very off chance someone would want to make an addon similar to cartographer, or if someone from cartographer would like to add the ability to load custom made data from our service (through an ID). My MSN is [email protected], and my email is [email protected]. Please spread the word on our service if you can! |
I gotta stop reading forums at 5 am in the morning :(
I'll be brief and full this in later with better explanations 1) Very cool service. Fast . Quick. Fairly stable 2) Addons are sandboxed with no access to the outside world. They can only see the saved variables folder. So any file exchange that way is right out. I'ld suggest some kind of system where you get a really long token that you copy from the webpage then paste in game into an addon. This addon will then process that token or encoded string to present the same sort of thing you see on scribble maps. With no file exchanging necessary |
lol, I can tell you're responding at 5am because you said both fast and quick in the same line ;p
Ya, I assumed that might be the case (sand boxing). The token would be very long, from 256kb-1mb+ However using flash I could copy it to the clipboard automatically. Everything is stored as KML, well that is partially true, on the server it is an encoded binary file, but it is still KML. I suppose the other possibility would be to create another different application which could automatically take an ID and then create a file in the saved variables folder. Though I imagine people would rather just alt-tab and copy/paste then run a secondary app. I imagine that using a secondary application you could use it as a proxy to give an add-on quasi real-time communication. Though I have no idea if blizzard would like this, I doubt it. I am also getting off topic. I guess my next question would be is if there would be a demand for it, WOW:SM was mostly created as a quick way to send locations etc.. to friends, although I am confident some more crafty people could figure out other ways to use it. I imagine if I also included instances/raids (which I am planning on) it might be a good tool for party planning. |
