2.2.0 Patch -- Looking Forward to It?

*Curious!*

I'd like to know when it's finally released to the public!

malcite 09-17-07 02:33 PM

no one really knows. it might be this Wednesday it might be next wednesday or it might even be in a months time. Blizz is either terribly slow slacking of or they want to make sure they get everything fixed + prepare for 2.3 and WotlK

Sithraza 09-17-07 02:38 PM

isnt zul'aman going to be released in 2.2?

Geboran 09-17-07 02:40 PM

Indeed. I've seen two pre-patch downloads thus far, so I figured it might be coming "sooner" rather than "later".

I agree, though, that I would rather have a "good" patch than a "bad" one (aka rolling restarts, hotfixes, etc.)

As a paladin, having my blessings doubled in length is what I'm looking forward to the most. I'm -hoping- that the nerf bat misses and that the buff bat crits WoW for 98674651295. :)

Yeah, it is.

The sooner the better at that point ;)

Almost all addons work on both 2.1 and 2.2 but some (usually the newest cutting-edge versions) were written or re-written specifically for 2.2 and they give lots or errors or break on 2.1. Nothing major really, it's just cumbersome each week to think this will be done with.

[begin not-UI-stuff]
I have not checked the official forums recently, anyone knows why it is delayed? Any reason other than in-game voice chat? We've been playing WoW for more than 3 years now, vent or TS work just fine, just push the feature to 2.3 or even 3.0 if it is not ready for 2.2. We want the rest of 2.2 changes :p
[end not-UI-stuff]

Maybe tomorrow (most likely next week given we just got 2 PTR updates in the past few days)
EDIT: okay probably not tomorrow:

2.3 at the earliest, along with the guild bank (hopefully!)

I'm hoping that 2.3 will not take nearly as long to be released.

As said here and there PTRs 2.2.0 have been closed (servers are actually back up to prepare 2.2.2  ).
So it is definitely coming;)

The big reason why 2.2 is taking so long to test is both the new in game Voice Chat, and a updated sound engine. Both are taking longer that normal to test. Blue Quotes:

This change also allows us greater control and ease in supporting and developing for the wide range of sound hardware, as well as future upgrades and improvements to the in-game sound effects and options.

Blizzard has also stated that due to the extended public testing for 2.2, much of the testing for 2.3 has already been completed. So we could see 2.3 come much sooner that expected.

That has been known for some time. This patch is mainly a code updater/adder not a content patch. The 2.2 Patch will add some content (Brewfest and later Hallow's Eve) 2.3 and 2.4 will be content patches. I would not be surprised to see code that will support WoLK and WoW 3.0 (or whatever base WoW version will be when WoLK is released) added to the client in the next couple of patches. Part of the code (the sound engine stuff) will support WoW in the future.

I think Brewfest and such is being tested for 2.2.2, not 2.2, right?
I almost think they will push 2.2 tomorrow, whether or not they
push voice chat on those few, select realms yet. It could always
be possible that they will hold out on voice chat for a bit, since
they weren't going to release it to all realms yet anyway.

i must admit, I was bothered when the PTRs went down, because
I still hadn't gotten everything in my addons folder to work together.
:D

My guess is that 2.2 will be coming "sooner" rather than later and it will include the Voice Chat and sound engine update and the posted API/game changes.

2.3 will be the first content update (zul'aman) other than the Brewfest addition.

Beyond that it's total speculation, since this is Blizzard we're talking about.

PS: My computer blew up so that's why I haven't been around as much lately /cry

With 2.4 - They will make a API to fetch data from the combat log (And the messages such as "You received: [Skinning Knife]x3.") rather than parsing every entry from a string. It will also be possible to tell what mob did what even if both (Or more) mobs have the same name.

As far as I know, they will also use colouring more in the combat log with the default UI.
