Aurora window theme

Hello!

I have a little project going on in my UI with the goal to replace the default Blizzard artwork with my theme of choice, Aurora. I named it that way because of how light is visible right through the frames and I wanted the name to be as shiny as the looks. :D

It all started when Tukui beta included a small script that would modify frames such as the option frames, popups, ... And their buttons. This set me on my way to do this for every UI frame.

So how does it work? First. I replace the default Blizzard artwork with small fully transparent files in the Interface folder. I can't replace all artwork though, so I polish it up by using lua code to find and hide specific frame regions. When everything I don't need is stripped off, I apply a lua background or extra frames, do the same with the tabs, and restyle the buttons (which glow and pulsate in class colour on mouseover).

Even though it's rather simple, I'm quite proud of it.

This is how the new frames look:

I still need to do the bg scoreboard and trade frame. Once I figure out how to change the text colour on the quest and dialog frame (halp) I will do those as well, and then every frame will be restyled. The spell book could use with a different text colour as well.

I'm also sill looking for some nice close button/scroll button/scroll bar/... To match it. I'm worthless with creating my own textures, so suggestions are welcome. Feel free to have a go at it if you want to. I'm thinking of a similar theme to the frames and buttons, or something OS X/Windows 7 like.

Big thanks to Tukz and Karudon for the original concept, sacrife for help with regions and Quokka for helping me with textures.

Because the original base code is still included I can't upload it separately, but it's included with permission in FreeUI.

I love what you did with the skinning. Real clean. <3

I kinda like it. It's simple but when you have the different things up you can still see things around you. That would very handy for checking stuff when you're out where you need to watch out for stuff respawning around you (or players showing up to try to kill you if you play on pvp realms). I hate being caught unaware because I've had to stop to check on something with a quest or check my map.

Thanks for the comments!

Saving friend list space - moved the status stuff to the left, removed the header, lowered the close button and cropped the backdrop. Not sure if I like it, need to get used to it at least.

Still looking for a nice set of buttons.

OMG REAL ID STUFF IN TEH SCREENY, GET HIM!1

Err, looks awesome. To bad it's connected to a whole UI. Shouldn't be that hard to make it standalone, though. Is it? ;)

Haleth 10-15-10 10:21 AM

Gah, forgot about the Real ID. Normally I use Moniker and I make just their first names or initials visible, but it hasn't been updated for 4.0.1 yet. My bad.

I'd make it standalone if all of it were my own work. Might ask Tukz at some point if he minds.

Dawn 10-15-10 10:51 AM

I don't think people would mind it. As long as credit is given, where credit is due. :)

At least that's how I handle it if people want to use some stuff of mine.

That's not how actual copyright is handled though. ;) If tukz doesn't have a license stating that people can use his code, then those people are required to ask permission, and he has the right to say "no".

FINALLY managed to change quest log and stuff text colour, only thing I can't figure out is gossip frame options.

Wow, it all looks really elegant Haleth!

Very nice :)

I know, but most addon authors don't handle their stuff with a license. If there is a license, one has to follow it. That's for sure! No idea if Tukz is using one. :)

He is. It's pretty much your typical stuff, though.

The skinning feature used for menu/frame/etc in my UI is in that file.

TukuiDB.SetTemplate function is in that file.

No, I haven't. My response was towards Dawn with the copypasta of the license.

MidgetMage55 10-17-10 03:47 PM

And if no license is shown its All Rights Reserved unless otherwise stated. :D

A license *gives* permissions. No license, no permissions. ;)
