Tol Barad owner?

Is there a possible way to check who the owner of Tol Barad is without having to go there? In LK I was able to check for the buff on a player to see if they owned WG, but now I can't find any way to figure out who the owner is.

Is there a function I'm just not finding?

Thanks!

Well from what I can see from the map is that no one faction controls the whole of the zone. I could be wrong of course as I have never been there to see what the situation is there yet.

For example at the moment on my server the horde own the southern area of the northern isle and the alliance own the eastern area of the northern isle.

So it may be that it is not a whole zone pvp but a sub zone pvp matter and there may not be a function to tell you that.

Hehe. :)

There is the "north", called Tol Barad Peninsula, and the "south", the actual PvP zone like Wintergrasp.

The "north" is always accessible by both factions. Here you can complete 6 random dailies.

The "south" is accessible when you control Tol Barad. An additional 6 dailies can be completed here as well when your faction controls it. These, too, are mostly random and change after every Tol Barad battle.

So, in total, you can complete 12 Tol Barad dailies a day.

As to answer the OP: If your faction controls it, you should see your factions symbol on the "south" area (Tol Barad) of the map.

The OP's question was about how to determine who controls it when you don't go to Tol Barad. The icon doesn't always show up.

Personally, I've only had it show up after going to Tol barad, but I might be mistaken.

That's exactly my problem, I don't want to have to go to Tol Barad to figure out who owns it.

You don't need to go to see it. If you control it and you don't, it's a Blizzard bug.

You actually don't see it until you go there, even when you control it.

I almost swore I saw it when I was in Orgrimmar. Maybe if you've been there once in the day, it will keep you informed throughout the same session?

Yes, that's what I mean - you only see it after your initial visit there.

Pretty annoying to figure out after logging on whether it's worth it or not to check it out and see if the extra dailies are up.

Same here, however it's not too bad since there's a portal there and back.

Yeah. I think this is something that Blizzard should (and hopefully will) fix in a future patch. You shouldn't have to go there to find who has control.

It's not just that. The icon doesn't update either after you have visited it. So if you visited it while its controlled by Horde, then you leave, and later Alliance wins it, your map will still show that its controlled by the Horde (erroneously) until you visit Tol Barad to update it again.

However, I've found that "/who tol barad" always answers which faction owns the island. If you see a lot of people in the peninsular and almost none on the PvP island, then its owned by the other faction.
