Configuring a new ui

Hello i have a question for you all people on WowInterface.

Is there a way to have like a "screenshot" of a blank UI (basically like you have done ALT-Z) and then put AddOns inside that "screenshot" and move them around so you can look how the UI would look like ingame. But without being ingame?

sorry if the title & explanation is a bit odd :S

thanks for any help i can get :)

oh right sorry if there is a topic just like this. could find it though

You can of course create a conceptual screenshot, but that would require knowing exactly how something is going to appear in the first place. There is nothing that will allow you to copy what an addon might look like into an image editor.

Your best bet would be to take one screenshot with your interface turned off, then one with all addons showing. Then you can simply crop the addons and throw them onto the other screenshot, arranging them as you wish. It's not perfect, but it can give you an idea of how the concept will look.

Sorry to sound rude, but would it not be a lot easier to just arrange them how you want in-game? You could quite easily use a Reflux profile to save how everything was beforehand.

Yeah, I'm just downloading/modifying all the addons I will need to make my new UI for when I hit 80, soon after the EU servers come back online.

EDIT: I realized my post could help more than just this thread, so it's gotten its own. It can be found here.

Buiding UI is a huge task and even if such tool as you describe excisted, I doubt it would be very helpfull at bottom line.

Best I could advice you while building up UI is:
Look for Guides about UI building. I never seen/used one myself but they do exist

There are tips on some wow-related sites about what addons to use, how to configurate them for specific classes. As example, tankspot.

The visability of your UI foremost depends on your game style. Even after you HAVE actually composed a layout, its without a question, that you will have to play game to make sure the layout works fine in the action. If you understand what I mean. Most likelly you will move your addons not once after you have drawn your perfect layout. If not, you are either a horrible player I would never team with or your a genius, I would worship =P

And to end my post:
There was somewhere I read about adding addons to your UI and choosing their layout. One thing at a time. Play with it, move it, add another thing, All over again. Good luck =)

Hope I did not traced too far away from your question.
