Sidescroll stuff at bottom of page?

TL;DR: What is it? Why is it? Is there any metric of how much bandwidth/memory it's using?

I have no need, usually, to scroll to the bottom of the page. However, recently some pages have been short enough that I'm suddenly seeing something scrolling on the bottom of the page - some seem to be wow related (stranglethorn vale fishing contest), others I don't recognize. I do tend to keep a browser window open to this site, in a tab along with things like my wow associated gmail account, my norganna's addons account, and wowhead.

Incidentally, I'm seeing a lot of lag on my computer - a lot of memory used. This continues to be the case when even when I kill things like the desktop launcher, other browser windows, my solitaire game (great for long flights)... in fact, killing everything but my wow window, this browser, and my im client (pidgin). Yes, I know about the hooraw over wowhead's ads, and I killed all the wowhead tabs also, and I'm still seeing it.

Now, I have an older computer, running Linux, with some upgraded components so it's actually not the lowest hardware that will run wow, tho it's certainly not the highest. I expect some issues (but at least I'm no longer consistently at 15 fps). But I looked through the news posts and didn't see anything mentioning this, so I figured I'd ask.

Thanks!

Hi Barleduq,

It's a stanza.co calendar, they provide game specific calendars. We are testing it out & we get money from them displaying their calendar (it has some ads sometimes). Other than the ads (if they're not blocked) it should be just html, css & small amount of js so it shouldn't really cause much increase in resource usage. I haven't noticed any increase on osx or windows but haven't tested any linux desktops.

I know wowhead recently had an issue with resource usage (but have quickly resolved it i believe) https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comment...otice_massive/ could that be it? You mentioned that you keep them open in a tab as well but said it persisted even after closing it so maybe thats not it?

Since you're on linux could you edit your host file and 127.0.0.1 www.stanza.co? That would disable loading the calendar. Do you still have high resource usage?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've added the line to my /etc/hosts file, and will see what happens tonight.

I'll note, in passing, that I pay for a membership in Zam, which includes wowhead and wowinterface, exactly because I know my machine can't really handle a lot of ads (especially video ones, which are egregious in most ad sources). One of the things my membership is supposed to get me is an ad-free experience. While I think it's pretty awesome that you found a site that delivers on-point content - i.e. gaming related stuff - I'm still wondering why I'm getting the ads when I have a membership. Or am I misunderstanding the inter-relation of the membership?

We are no longer part of the ZAM network. We left over a year ago. http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=53058

We currently do not offer a premium membership at the moment but are thinking about it. I'm going to manually flag your account for premium at least until we decide what we are doing. Currently all those people who had premium before we broke off from ZAM still have it.

Huh.

I remembered seeing something about parting from Zam, but I couldn't recall if it was wowhead or wowinterface, and I couldn't find any information about it. I thought I'd dreamed it. zam.com still has wowinterface listed in the same columns as wowhead (and I don't recall what those are, right now), which I checked right before I made that post.

Interestingly enough, a while back I commented that the download button suddenly was taking me to a new page, where it hadn't before. I just had notice (along with the email for this) that 2 addons updated, and when I hit download, I didn't get the new page.

I look forward to finding out what you do for a membership.

Thanks for the quick reply!
