First movie...

Still a work in progress as I refine the process (need to get a better finisher -- hate the blur it's creating, working on that)

Anyway... check it out... http://www.nuiaddon.com/movies/movie01.html

I urge you to record it at a higher resolution (way higher) and eventually post 2 versions on the site : Low-Res/Hi-Res . At it's current state, the low resolution and bad encoding defeats the whole purpose of explanation.

I did a bit of recording and video editing in my life and so far , I'm most pleased with Quicktime encoder (.mov) .

Yeah... I'm a little stumped as to what's happening and it's getting the better of me. I recorded the clip with Frap at 1280x800 and it's crystal clear. Then I brought the clip into Pinnacle Studio 12 to do the titling and transitions and it's crystal clear in Studio 12. But no matter how I generate the final file the graphics fall appart... I've tried MOV, MP4, AVI, WMF and every setting under the sun and not matter what, I'm getting this blurry mess.

I could always run the clips with no titling or transitions, but that's ugly in its own way and defeats several of the purposes I had in mind.

Here's a second pass at the same movie... the graininess is gone, but it's still really blurry and I don't understand why. The source is crystal clear.

Anyway... http://www.nuiaddon.com/movies/movie02.html

If anyone wants to posit any theories on why the quality is falling apart so badly, I'm all ears.

I'm starting to wonder if this has something to do with how Fraps is producing the originals. I've tried several different video editors now and every one of them the video falls apart as soon as I import it into the editor or try to generate an output.

The video is clear and sharp in the Fraps output AVI file, but I cannot modify it in any way and resave it without the whole thing coming apart. :-/

I always save my videos uncompressed after editing them and compress them afterward with Ojosoft Video Converter. As you said, i also noticed that no video editing application can compress videos but still keep them crystal clear.

Maybe i can have your IM to discuss this further ?

I don't use IM. :0

I'd never get anything done if I did ;-)

I'm actually having a work at home weekend... the Army is going to be in the office tomorrow for our CDR (critical design review for those who don't know) on the Blackhawk electrical trainer that I've been on, so I'm busy trying to finish up the software design document for the review... so far I'm at 450 pages and have a long way to go... so to make a long story short, I'm not getting much play time in this weekend and really spent more time on it yesteday than I should have.

That said, I did download Camtasia 6 this morning and started playing with it. I *think* it may fix the problem, but it crashed on me before I could prove it and I really can't play anymore until I finish this SDD.

I've got to be in the office tomorrow morning for the kickoff of the CDR, but once it's underway, I plan on taking the rest of the day and Tuesday off to compensate for the weekend time. I'll play with it some more then.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to put together some 800x500 movies to show off nUI's different HUDs and unit frame panels, etc, and caption them for the web site gallery, I'm all for letting a pro have at it

~grin~

Scott... my roomie (a nUI user, too) recommends Sony Vegas Pro for editing.
