Addons you HAVE to have
I was talking about addons/mods with my brother and while I am a addon junkie, he uses very few of them. So the question came up. What addons would you absolutely have to have if you were limited to only being able to have 5-10 of them?
|
|
- some debug addon (currently using my own)
- oChat (modified to my likings) - oUF + layout (my own) - CooldownButtons - TTell guess thats it that im depending alot on, the rest is just for eyecandy / easage tho i write my own addons :) |
Chatter
Mapster TomTom a Unit Frames addon (I'm playing with oUF atm) Bar mod (BT4 atm) MSBT OmniCC CarboniteQuest (When Leveling) Wow that seems like a lot =/ I'm addicted to addons :p |
Sigh
I have to have
Lightheaded Doublewide Tomtom Alphamap auctioneer HealerButtons (Dont think I would want to heal without them) OmniCC oGlow TBag Spellcraft I think if I was limited to 10 I would cry but I might be able to make it with just those. Might. |
Addons that I couldn't play without:
Auctioneer Bartender4 BigWigs CowTip MSBT Omen OmniCC PallyPower PitBull Quartz sRaidFrames tekKompare |
wow no QuestHelper lovers here? I'm hurt. That said my list of beloved addons is much smaller.
*QuestHelper *Auctioneer *Healbot Continued (if healing) *SSPVP3 (if PVPing) *Automatic Gnome Therapist (great for spammers!) GL! |
-AutoProfitX
-BadApples -ChatSounds -EastWestPlus -EasyCopy -FluidFrames -ItemRack -MapNotes -OmniCC -Possessions -RatingBuster -RedRange -sRaidFrames -WIM -XLoot* 15 and I was cringing every time I had to "cut" one :P There's at least 20 more that are fighting to get on that list. Note that my addon folder has some 200 addons or so (not all active on the same character) but the above are the ones that would seriously diminish the game if I didn't have on all. Ops! I just re-read the OP.. you said 5-10 not 15, ouch. |
Dominos
Cartographer Clique PitBull ArkInventory I could do without Clique on non-healers, too. |
I must be one of the crazy people that does fine with the default UI when on PTRs or something. ;) While I *want* to use addons, I don't *need* them. I'm sure that there are a lot of things people listed above that they just "want" and don't really "need". :) But here are the things that I always get first for my addons folder:
some bar mod (I have preferences, but as long as I have something) some UF mod (^^^) Clique BugGrabber/BugSack RatingBuster TomTom OmniCC |
Although i run around 200+ mods that i cant live with out the following are must have:
Omen Recount (or other Damage Meter) Bigwigs/Littlewigs (or DBM if u prefer) CCbreaker (tells group/raid who broke your sheep or other CC) Clique (group/raid healing) Tourguide+Lightheaded+Tomtom (Questing/leveling) Carbonite (i use paid version, but i am sure the CarboniteQuest is just as good). Grid (used with clique, perfect raid frames for a healer) Capping (PVP) |
Bagnon
Mapster Itemrack TomTom Dominos Sellfish Omnicc Bugsack Auctionator Gathermate Bindpad (I actually like the default ui frames now but still thinking about adding raid frames. I really want something minimal with basic info for a dps class.) |
Like most, have to have the main ones to change the UI.
Have to have: An action bar mod UnitFrames Tooltip (movement and extra info) one bag mod for inventory Gathermate And to round out the list of 10: Prat Minimap and minimap button mod Fubar with a few informational mods Lightheaded Although, I'm glad they don't limit us, as I use a lot more than that :o |
If I absolutely had to choose just one addon, it would be Carbonite. |
1. Titan
2. X-Perl 3. Atlas 4. AtlasLoot 5. LunarSphere 6. Bagnon 7. OmniCC 8. BigWigs 9. Auctioneer 10. WIM |
Got to have:
1. ItemRack 1.99 2. Lightheaded 3. TomTom 4. FishermansFriend 5. Tipsy Rounding out: 6. Dominos 7. OmniCC 8. FuBar 9. RatingBuster 10. DragQueen :) |
ItemRack v.1.99 shouldn't even be working anymore...
|
ItemRack v 1.99 works fine.
I use this mod to make a bar of MainHand - OffHand - Ranged - Ammo- Trinket - Trinket which I put neatly to the side. A mouseover, and a click, and any of those slots changes weapon, whatever. Later versions lost the ease of making these buttons. |
1. Macaroon (formerly TrinityButtons2)
2. X-Perl 3. Combuctor 4. FuBar (and some major ones like DurabilityFu, BagFu, MoneyFu, HonorFu, SkillsFu, FactionFu) 5. Chinchilla OmniCC Omen Ellipsis Chatter UberQuest BigWigs/LittleWigs Parrot Cartographer Healbot Violation |
None, but I prefer to have the following on when I play:
|
Pitbull
Bartender Prat DBM or BigWigs Quartz Parrot Omen CowTip The order has no meaning. Just this is the way they came into my mind. |
And while I'm at it; fav UI's are Ishtara UI, Zyn UI, or anything by Tiany over the last maybe 6 months :p |
In no particular order.
DBM Elkanos buff bars Omen Recount MSBT Perfect raid Rating Buster Tip Tac |
mine - I run pretty light?
1) bars (currently bartender 4)
2) (simple) unit frames - using icehud for that right now - basically as long as I can reposition player/target/tt I'm good. Icehud has the bonus of providing player and target cast bars as well. 3) Minimalist (mainly for the chat adjustments, sell grey items, and scroll in the mini-map) 4) Deadly Boss Mods (only when I'm raiding) 5) Omen or another stacked-up threat display 6) a bag combiner (using bagnon now mainly for it's search feature) 7) A gear-set switcher (using outfitter currently) 8) A tool tip replacement (mainly so I can reposition the tooltip. Using tiptac currently) 9) omnicc to add cooldown counts to bt4 bars 10) Mapster I am fine with the defaults for raid/party frames, chat fonts/background/movers, minimap, etc. etc. I'm not into the eye-candy so much - mainly I just try to position the important frames well to fit me. |

ALL FROM HERE! |
In roughly this order:
This is coming from someone who's raided as a resto shaman for the last 3 or so years... if I were speaking for any of my alts, the list might be a little different. :) |
1 - (what i really can't play without) UnitFrames in my case it's oUF layout
Grid if i'm healing 2 - RedRange,OmniCC,Parrot |
Post-3.0 many addons undergone a revamp, or simply broke and are discontinued. So I had to set about fidning not only a new bunch that worked with 3.0, but also worked with each other! ... here's my brief list of current..
LoL oops, I was up all night with work, so yeah I /fail ... ok here's revised! 1. ArkInventory 2. Prat 3. Macaroon 4. BigWigs + DBM 5. Omen Can I have a 6th? .. ok 6. Altas (Loot) Don't think the game would be the same w/o those tbh! Edit by Shirik: Negative comments against programs that work well like those you placed here are both off-topic and unnecessary. This is your only warning. |

Someone forgot to read the last part of the OP  |

Did you know that there used to be a big purple bubble (Dalaran) between Hammerfall and Kargath? |

It was between Undercity and Tarren Mill. |
I'm definitely not a fan of default UI and I like using addons just to test them out. The list I could not do without is not that big however.
1) Addon to make my frames mobile like Fluid Frames. The windows glued to the screen drive me nuts. 2) Some OneBag type of addon, like Bagnon. I can hardly find anything I my one bag - having to sort 5 would shorten my life expectancy... 3) Some Boss Warning addon. ( BigWigs, DBM ) - to not be 'that guy' on the raid. 4) Some notes/macro storing addon, like MacroBank, NotesUNeed, IHML, ect. why? Well if I didn't have all my addons to provide me with shortcuts I would have to make my own via macros ( equipment switching, mouseover healing, trinket use, etc ). I would certainly run out of room to keep them all. 5) Addon to loot all my mail. Opening 50+ mails per day one by one gets old real fast. Thats what I need to keep me sane. Of course I will keep using my 100+ addons anyway :P. |
Clique
Everything else can be done without addons. But click casting without clique is the hell. :) |
1) Any unit frame mod that allows party to be separated
2) TipTac (drag the anchor where you want ftw) 3) /nefport (or any viewport mod that works) 4) Bartender4 (any barmod that doesn't take a week to learn the uses) 5) Any Minimap that you can drag and resize/reshape (using Rico atm) 6) Timers for buff/dot/hot tracking (using Dotimer atm) 7) Itemrack or Outfitter (I'm a druid) 8) Prat (or Phanxchat) 9) Omen (only because it's "required" for raiding, anyone that "knows their class" shouldn't "need it", except in situations where agro is wiped from a boss) 10) Clique if I'm healing If I had to limit to 10, that would be it I guess. If I were to answer next next week, it might change in 2 or 3 areas ;) |
Need and want tread very close to one another for most mods (for me anyway). Maybe if I try to think of what lacking mods would cause me to go find something else to do instead :P That would probably be the following:
Any unit frame mod Any bar mod Clique To me, everything else is either nice to have, or just reduces annoyance. |

Auctioneer Some bar mod (Macaroon, right now, by choice) Chatterbox SimpleMail Some coordinate mod Combuctor (or some bag mod) DevTools Really very fond of: Auditor FuBar_LocationFu FuBar_ExperienceFu flagRSP (or equivalent) Atlas or Cartographer MobInfo or similar databases of mob drops LightHeaded There's a ton of other stuff I like having, but the big fundamental things for me are efficient auctioning, unified bags, and a ton of buttons. |
UnitFrame (Bouncing between Pitbull and oUF while I learn code)
Dominos (Bar mod) Grid Clique Autobar ATM those 5 are my must haves. ToolTip (lolTip atm) Butsu Squeenix OmniCC One bag mod (OneBag or Baganon) |
these 10 are my favorite, id of course have to pick some different ones to raid
Pitbull Macaroon WIM Fubar (lol guess its gonna be blank) Improved World Defense DoTimer Baggins XLoot Uberquest Altoholic |
OpenRDX, AuldLangSyne, Ellipsis, TitanBar, OmniCC, Lightheaded, TipTac, Outfitter, MSBT.
|
Bartender4 (or some other barmod)
Pitbull (or x-perl, depending on my mood) Mapster Combuctor BetterInbox BankStack |
Like others, I'm more in the "I need something of this type" rather than any particular addon.
1. Bar replacement addon. So far I've liked Tuller's for this. 2. Unit frame addon. I've used XPerl and now using Pitbull. 3. Combat Text addon. Using MSBT now, used to use SCT / D. 4. Bag addon. I like ones that make it into one bag. I'm trying to get used to Combuctor as a filtering bag addon. 5. Chat addon. Using Chatter now, but have used Prat in the past. |
I tend to use the most light weight mods and these seem up to date:
Cast bar: AzCastbar ( sometimes use quartz) Bag mod: cargBags Frame: perl classic or x-perl Chat: Phanxchat Tooltip: TipTac Bars: Dominos Map: pminimap and mapster Pvp: Interruptbar, spellalerter, proximo and the always amazing Powerauras. Also want to try macaroon out. |
Besides ones that I've written:
TBag MonkeyQuest LightHeaded TomTom |

1. Bartender4
2. X-Perl 3. Fubar_BagFu 4. FuBar DurabilityFu 5. Fubar_MoneyFu 6. OmniCC 7. Omen 8. Mapster 9. Gatherer 10. teksloot Like many others I have alot more running. The above listed were all I used for a week after ther 3.02 patch and I didn't explode without the rest of my addons running. |
I don't have to have any. I learned in my first few patch days of hell not to get too dependent on anyone's mod. However, my vote for the best mod in terms of simplicity, play value, and overall support is hands down...
Clique It vastly improves the user experience for anyone having to cast. I can do without all others, and technically can do without Clique, but I'd be a very miserable and disgruntled player if Clique packed it in and moved along to the Great Mods of the Past Graveyard. Once again, great job Cladhaire! One other mod I absolutely love, but not to the degree of Clique... Bayi's Extended Questlog It's yet another mod that really improves the user experience and is relatively simple to use and configure. |

Power Auras. I would miss every proc if it weren't for that mod, I kid you not! MSBT is nice, but I like having a giant graphic rather than some text that I have to read.

For a while I played on a computer that doesn't meet the minimum system requirements for WotLK. In an effort to save cpu, I trimmed as many addons as I could. Playing on beta helped wean me off, too. Action bar addons were the first to go. They made my screen simpler, but as a keybinder, I didn't really need them. I found that it wasn't too much trouble to apply rogue poisons directly from my bags, or do crafting stuff directly from my spellbook. I didn't need an extra actionbar for those things. I found I could get away with only having addons for four things:
Unit frames. Something to move them out of the top left corner to someplace I can see them. Ideally make them visually simpler, as well. I used ag_unitframes for a long time and now use Pitbull. Threat meter. Actually only necessary in raids or with bad PUG tanks. I use Omen. Timer for short-term buffs & debuffs. There are lots of options, but I wrote my own addon (NeedToKnow) so that it'd do what I want. Cooldown notifier. Something to remind me to use my short-duration cooldowns. Eventually I wrote my own (TellMeWhen). Other than that, everything else is just convenient. |
