Isn't that just the number of people that viewed the normal site during "patch time"? (And not the trimmed download home page.)

Specifically, that number was from 3.0 I believe.

Actually, the only thing that showed was the number of people who were actually _signed in_ (ie have a WoWI account and logged on to it) simultaneously. It didn't count all the people that weren't signed in to their WoWI account or those that haven't ever actually registered but just use the site as "guest". :)
