Place, cords, time color?

Can the area that shows location, cords and time show the zone color(Green, yellow, red) instead of only yellow all the time? Just a small request. :)

Hey again Scott, as always, wonderful work, I was curious, is there an option somewhere to disable the locked bars in combat? if I get in combat and I'm mousedover on something, it locks up and I can't see the descriptions unless I drop combat.

spiel2001 12-16-08 11:40 AM

I'm adding and option to toggle that feature on and off. It's not locking up, it was added by request (hiding tooltips during combat) -- I didn't expect so many people to have a problem with that as there's really no useful info in the tooltips during combat, but apparently I was mistaken... so, the next update will include a slash command to toggle that on and off.

Can you point me to a mod that already does that so I can see how they are making the determination of which color to use? (I know, it's level based, but I want to see how they're determining the level)

Fludder -- you should upload that to http://www.wowinterface.com/download...=9108#optional so that it's easier for folks to locate and download. Just use the "Upload optional addon" link on that page.

Slow night at work so I played around a bit with your thin black skin in the GIMP. I wont have a chance to test this fully as I can't run WoW from work but I've used a slightly different skin modified from the bas relief skin. Hope ya enjoy

I modified the TOC and LUA files accordingly (changing author of Skin but leaving your copyright and credits in the TOC)

Fubar_RecZone (Recommended Zone) does this, Scott. I still use this addon (even with nUI) simply for everything it does.

As a matter of record...

I'm adopting a policy of I'm not going to answer questions anymore that people can answer for themselves just by looking at the documentation or using the '/nui' help command or just reading back two or three messages where the same question was already answered.

The bottom line is that nUI has crossed 100,000 downloads and the number of users is growing exponentially now. I'm getting messages via the comment boards, forums, private messages and e-mail now many times a day that ask questions the user could have easily answered in just a minute or two on their own.

I understand that it's a pain for people to have to read messages or the documentation, but it's the effort of one person to answer their own question. Conversely, I'm just one person with a limited amount of time. If I have to spend an hour or two a day every days retyping answers to questions that are in the documentation already or have been answered every forth message, I have no time for anything else.

So... from here on, if the answer is in the docs (and soon on the site/FAQ/wiki, etc) then my reply is going to be either (a) RTFM or (b) go see some reference.

Of course, questions on subjects that are not clearly explained in the documentation, and such, I will always engage as well as bug reports, feature requests (that aren't already listed in the to-do) and do on.

I hope and trust everyone understands that tact, but I have to do it or this is going to get out of control.

Thanks Silenia -- I'll download a copy and pull it apart to get my head around the idea. I like the concept a lot.

What other features are you using out of the mod?

Antipop 12-16-08 12:04 PM

To me it looks way too clustered. I'd want something that looks nice, but is yet effective for raiding. While, yes, you can have viewpoints, I play on a 27 inch monitor, and when the UI Graphics take up half the screen, it's kind of disorientating, not to mention it looks unappealing.

Yes, it's a good idea and clearly, it's popular, just not for me. Best of luck with it.

I don't know of any mods that do it besides Blizz, but it's not level based though. It's just to see if you're in a friendly(green), contested(yellow) or hostile(red) zone. Just a thought, don't bother if it's a pain to do anyway? ;)

Do you mean what features do I use from RecZone? All of them as everything is useful hehe. I can't say that about every addon that I use though... some addons I have, I only need it for one feature. But RecZone is one where all of the features are useful.

There's a feature inside of your ingame video settings that allow you to set the size of your UI (not your screen rez, the UI itself).

Why do you even make posts like this? Seriously. if you don't like it, that's cool. The author writes the UI mod for himself, and chose to share it.

Coming here and telling us about your uber 27" monitor and not liking it, and "clustered" is useless, because the author didn't write the mod for YOU.

No reason at all - nothing constructive...not a bug report...nada....useless drivel...<sigh>

You do realize that is a 100% subjective statement, right?

Quote:

but is yet effective for raiding.
Also totally subjective. What's effective for one player is a completely blank screen with audio cues and an army of macros, another player is playing through a 3" square porthole surrounded by so much information they have to have a headache by the end fo the day.

That's just a wee bit of an exaggeration is it not? 1/2? Really! Okay... 1/3, maybe, actually a bit less... and if you use all of the features that are present, I'll bet dollars to donuts they actually use more of the viewable space on the display than nUI does because of the way nUI compacts and combines... but if you're a minimalist, you'll hate nUI anyway, and it wasn't written for you.

Quote:

Again... totally subjective. Useless information and an unachievable goal (to come up with a design everyone agrees is "appealing") -- and it's disorienting only because it's new to you as are all things that are not where you expect them to be. Of course, once you use it for a while, it starts to "make sense" -- but never without an adjustment period first.

Does that make you unpopular? (that's a joke ~smile~)

I'm sorry it's not for you, but I have no illusions that everyone will like nUI. In fact, I assume there are a lot of people who hate it. I just can't understand why some people feel it necessary to tell everyone else.

Why would those who appreciate this type of a UI care that you don't?

~lol~

I'd like to nominate Marthisdil as the official nUI front gate guard. I may be mistaken, but I think there's a wee bit of pitbull in Mart's DNA

Cartographer does it based on your lvl and the lvl of the area, honesly its not really needed, as if you r in an area that would be red, you would most likely die fast :-)

Petrah 12-16-08 01:08 PM

Following Fludders post (if that's ok), I'd like to share the list of the addons I use with nUI. I've cut this way way down as I use to have roughly 70 or 80 addons. I've found though that I don't need all of those with nUI, so I cut it down to just those addons that I absolutely cannot live without. This makes for a much better gaming experience and increased FPS in the new WotLK zones.

Keeping tack of my cash: Auditor, Fubar_AuditorFu
A single actionbar for all my extras (bandages, food, hunter auras, mounts, trinkets etcetera): Autobar
Auto spam reporter: Badboy
Bags: Bagnon, Bagnon_Forever, Bagnon_Options, Bagnon_Tooltips
Questing, Warehouse (see what all toons have in bank/bags), Guide (ingame GPS), Gatherer and more: Carbonite
Fishing: Fishing Buddy, FB_MergeDatabase, FB_TrackingFrame
Faction Tracker: Fubar_FactionsFu
Guild Info: Fubar_GuildFu
Mail: Fubar_MailFu
Latency, FPS, and keeping track of addon mem usage (Blizzards default one is sorely lacking): Fubar_PerformanceFu
Zone info: Fubar_RecZone
Durability - Just a simple percentage number (it hides that icky bulky large graphic that clutters up the screen): Fubar_SimpleDurabilityFu
All Fubar stuff: Fubar3.5
Combat Log: Hitsmode, nUI_InfoPanel_HitsMode
Chat Windows: PhanxChat
Gear info (helps me choose better upgrades based on gear stats): Rating Buster
For comparing gear: TekCompare
For the UI: nUI, nUI_ThinBlack

But it helps newer players that may not be familiar with a zone. More experienced players may not need the zone names to be colored as we're more familiar with most of the zones. More experienced players can ignore the colored zone names, while the newer players can take advantage of it. I think it's great that Scott is at least toying with the idea.

lol yeah.

I dunno why, but that cower emote has me howling with laughter every time I see it in game. Especially when the Gnomes do it. It hit's my funnybone in just the right spot rofl.
