In most raid vids...

Why does everyone use custom Blizz interface?

robthedude 06-10-08 04:26 AM

Well, in my opinion (and I think most other people's), the default interface doesn't give enough information.

Healers use addons that make it more obvious when someone has a debuff that they can cure.
Crowd Control classes use addons that tell them when their spells have been broken or worn off.
Tanks (especially, but all classes) use Threat Meters to tell them when someone is about to steal threat (or when they should ease up on the DPS to avoid getting aggro)

Thats just a few examples, there are many more that help raiders have more control over whats going on.

But mostly I think, the reason that most raid videos have custom interfaces, is that interface modders just like showing off :D

Tsany 06-10-08 04:36 AM

naah i think it's just plain bcuz addons help us to raid.. like omens and custom actionbars

That one guy 06-10-08 05:49 AM

Sorry, I totally worded that wrong.

I'm all in for custom interfaces.

What I MEANT to say, is why a lot of people use the plain blizz interface, no addons.

Sorry :p

Does it put less stress on the computer?

Clearer sight?

I guess you're gonna put a bit more detail in future posts huh? :)

Speaking as a dude that got by on minimum specs for a long time, I never noticed any difference in performance.
I tested it, at one time I had 450ish folders in interface/AddOns, there was no difference in framerate or latency whether all those addons were enabled or not.

Clearer sight?

Nope, can't be that either, have a look at some of the minimalist compilations on this site.

I had a quick look around on YouTube and you're right, most of them are using the default interface...
Perhaps the people that like to record their adventures aren't the sort of people that like using alot of addons?

Thank you for confirming this :)

Ill let them be and I can keep my interface.

I have yet to see a raid video that does not use addons. PvP/Arena sure but all raid videos I've watched and downloaded used lots of addons.

Youtube link to one?

Hehe...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=7PWXxRaI-ZM ?

Looking back at them now, I do see several with addons.

On that video it looks like his screen is so small/UI scale is so large adding a custom UI wouldn't have any benefit as his screen would get so cluttered :p

Seerah 06-15-08 07:11 PM

Looks like normal UI scale (1) with a 10x7 screen resolution. But, on the contrary, a custom UI will free up space on his screen.

blackpandemic 06-15-08 09:51 PM

True, but a lot of people who don't like minimal (def. not me) tend to find enough junk to clog their screens :P

I bealave that people who dont have decent PC,tries to escape from all addons that thei can live without, for example map/cast bar/action bar etc mods.
I run on realy old-school machine with 2.0 ghz/128 mb video/2 GB ram.
Even tho i have more than enaugh ram for wow,a high amount of addons, can cause me to notice a blury movements - drops in FPS generaly speaking.

I have made by my self few videos, and in non of them you see no screen full with addons, mostly its default, apart from omen,DBM,and maybe few other things.
Besides i dont realy need them, tbh i start to feel that i can do fine without DBM at some points.
There is generaly quita lot of reasons why we see people without,or minimal amounts of addons.

1.their PC is to old to handle them in masses.
2.Game expiriance > addons
3.Dislikeing.
4.No knowladge over them.
and most likely some other random reasons.
