L4 gathering addon
 

looking for an addon that will alert either on screen (SCT) or thru a sound when a node comes up on the mini map. Could be used for herbs also but im a miner :)

Alternatively there are addons like gatherer and cartographer that track last known spots. It will place a icon on your minimap as to where a node can possibly spawn. The icon will dissapear and be replaced by a circle based on distance settings. If you have your tracking ability on it will show the yellow dot in the circle.

Something that could be possible though, is to have such an addon work together with Gatherer or Gathermate and the likes. Have it play a sound when you get close to a place that has a remembered node.

Though you'd only be able to hear sounds for nodes you've already visited, and there would be no guarantee a node is actually there. But it could raise your awareness a bit and at least allow you to glance at your minimap quickly to see if a node is actually there.

With the amount of Herb or Ore nodes that these addons show it would never shut up. :)

But yeah it would be possible for these addons to play a sound when a known node icon appears on the minimap.

Check out Gatherers tracking HUD .. neat idea. Places the nodes in a "3D Map" view that rotates and stuff. It can only show know locations and can not tell you if an actual node is there (only the minimap can show actual nodes thru tracking abilities) but it is cool looking.

If I understand the OP correctly, he is looking for an addon that alerts by sound, the presense of the yellow dot that appears on your minimap when actively tracking an object in game (IE nodes, herbs, even mobs (hunter tracking)).

And so far everyone has responded that such addon would be impossible to create/exist. Could anyone explain in lay terms as to why?

Seems simple enuff imo, to create based on the event of the dot appearing on minimap... sounds the same as my mod that plays a sound when my mana is too low, or when my procs proc, ETC.

Are those mods based off events similar to the event of the Yellow Dot appearing on the mini map?

I am not an addon maker, nor do I profess to know anything about making one, but this just seems so logical, and Id like to have such a mod myself.

Thought Id try to help out the OP by grabbing the attention of some knowledgeable addon makers to reply =P

To put it simple ... Blizzard provides us with the tools on which we can build our addons. Making stuff happen on certain events, requires us to have access to that event first. And the yellow dots on the minimap is something we do not have access too. :)

Best we can do right now is modify the actual icons that are shown there.

Hmm.. figures.. Thanks for your reply!! *shakes fist at blizz* What's so wrong with having a sound play when a yellow dot appears, blizz?!! Huh?!! =P

This question always gets asked a ton around here. :D

IMO the easiest way is to grab GatherMate, GatherMate_Data, and Routes. Routes draws a line on the map with the easiest route to take when farming professions.
