"Atmosphere" - AddOn for complete control over BackGroundMusic

Greetings.

I guess many of you might feel the same way that situational music according to a person's individual taste can be one of the most wonderful, motivating and emotion-catalysing aspects of a game.

The long abandoned AddOn "Soundtrack" created a possibility to link the own music (in form of mp3s) to many custom events like specific zones, battle-types or mobs. Currently a fan update is keeping the community of this AddOn "satisfied", but it is barely working as it should.

I hereby propose the recreation of an AddOn capable of giving the game your very own atmosphere in any specific situation you want.

Possible Features (partially from Soundtrack, curse.com):
Music-association:

> Zones

> Battle, depending on enemy-lv, elite-enemy-lv, boss
__(f.e. gray, green, yellow or via specific lv-difference to define by user)

> Battle, depending on mobname
__(f.e. "Austin Powers Theme" for "Heigan" etc.)

> Battle, depending on current zone
__(f.e. special music in conservatory of life, etc.)

> Battle, pvp, possibly depending on local ally/enemy-ration per option
__or target class or race per option
__or depending on own life per option

> Battle-music escalation, when "harder" mobs add or similar conditions

> Situational like:
- Mount (ground) + specific to mounttype (f.e. hawkstrider different music than bearmount)
- Mount (flying) + specific to mounttype
- Taxi flying
- Class specifics (like stealth, springt, invisibility, catform, ...)
- group or raid - music (would overwrite zone-music per option)
- victory-music specific for mobname (bosses), fight-difficulty, zone, etc.
- etc.

- misc
> Soundtrack solved integrating user-mp3s via python, still valid solution?
> Soundtracks GUI didn't handle long filenames well, limited (view)space for many
chars = bad idea ;)

I assume many players could improve their gaming experience this way. Perhaps there is just another AddOn out there like I proposed, but I couldn't find it then. In this case: just tell me the AddOn's name.

I am sure it's quite a load of work to design an AddOn like described above, but maybe someone's interested?

In any case: thank you for reading this proposal!

Have a nice day and enjoy life :)

try Soundtrack. I used to use what your referring to but found it a little too much after a while and downgraded to epic player. Hope it's what you want.

Uhh,

well, I already use Soundtrack, as I mentioned in my post above. However the fact is, that Soundtrack is broken in several very unpleasant ways and could also have a significant higher number of nice features.

=> a new AddOn is the best solution (or a complete remake)

But, it seems there's not much interest in this case, ...

What a pity!

;) so long

I agree with Knebi. Soundtrack was by far my favorite addon for WoW, but unfortunately been broken for me for some time now, I would be very grateful to anoyne who could create a similar addon or rebuild Soundtrack.

Why no love? /cry

So, you want an addon that can assign a sound to event such as combat. I.E. you enter combat and have a sound that plays that says "Entering Combat" or something along that line.

Or when you mount have you have some random music played?

I do think that's what they mean Soul.

I think this addon sounds brilliant, and I would def. give it a try for awhile. Hopefully an author out there will pick this up.

Sounds like a good idea. Now also if I'm reading right, you want to be able to set different music depending on level compared to yours? So say the monster is 5 levels under you, you would want it to play a sound saying "Easy" and if its 10 levels higher, you would want it to say "MURDER!!!"? Still allowing you to set your own sounds, just examples.

Edit: Off to watch the rest of the race.

This sonds like a great idea and an intersting mod. HoNAnnouncer might give you some idea's on how to code some of the idea's listed here. Wish I understood it better to try and figure out the code for this myself.

Hmm, that does give a good idea on how to allow the sounds, the bad thing is, I still don't think that would work with the .mp3 format, I could not get it to work for the life of me, but trying it the way they do it, it works like a dream.

So far I've gotten a good start on it...right now it does:

Fear
MC
Death
Combat
Leaving Combat
I think it will do target and work correctly.
and should handle mounting correctly.

Still working out the config window.
Still need to get class specifics working to.
Battle with mob name
And zones

Would help to post exactly how it's broken.

Also the output of any lua errors you are getting. The fix could be a simple find n replace for renamed functions.

I've been using Soundtrack for ages, and it still seems to work for me.

I've changed at least one thing, which is only a trivial code change and wouldnt be the reason that the mod still works for me (playing a playlist should obey the random option dammit lol)

I cant remember if ive changed anything else though

I'm in support of a remake/re-imagining/whatever, i don't think i could play the game without my video game tunes and stuff playing for things
