Using the beta
 
First... thanks for helping test out the new releases, I had always figured if it worked for me... it should work for everyone since it's a game, how can it change one person to another, it uses the same code, the script is the same, the experience should be the same.... boy was I wrong lol...

From now moving forward new versions are always going to be posted to the forum first.... if I can go a couple days without seeing any major reported bugs, then i'll move it to live, still not sure an exact time line of what would be acceptable... I had originally thought 1 week of no bugs, but I also know people are impatient and if they are not following the forums to know it's being worked on, they will just see no update... day 2 no update... day 7 no update... So i'm definately open to hearing other's thoughts on it.

TBH I feel that nothing is ever truly bug free, somebody will always find at least one or two. IMO once the bugs that make the addon unusable (eg: scenario, micro-dungeon) are in working order then push it to live so those reports stop coming. then pick on the small probs, or what ever the next big thing on the list.

im using 5.1 beta and the maps/quest are working fine for me,,,im a newbie

Id say 48 hours with no major bug is enough to push it to live.

that way people get the updated content in a timely manner.

If a bug then crops up, you can either re-roll out the older version or fix the bug and roll that out.

I cannot find the link to download the most recent beta... I've used it before, but for some reason, I cannot find it now.

You didn't use the link to the most recent Beta version, which JimJoBlue and NoggenFogger provided for you. Uninstall what you used, then download and reinstall the latest Beta version.

A list of errors in your own thread would be helpful.
We can provide better support that way.

If you can't copy the errors, get 2 addons called buggrabber and bugsack on curse.. They store the reports and allow you to copy them.. (Ctrl+c)

I just wanted to say thank you truly from the bottom of my heart for continuing to develop this beautiful addon for my favorite game. I've been faithfully using it since it first came out and it remains one of my top 5 all-time FAVORITE and one of my top 3 all-time most USEFUL addons in existence. This may seem a simple compliment, so let me elaborate. I am an addon junkie. Wait, never mind. I am THE addon junkie, and have in use at any one time from 20-40 addons loaded, with a total of 134 installed. I've lately been attempting to curb my nasty habit and have cut these numbers way down, but you get the idea. In light of this outrage that is my addiction to addons, saying that Carbonite is among the VERY BEST there is. Thank you also for creating an update for 5.4. Whether it's alpha, beta or whatever is no matter to me. Thank you!

What are the other two of your top three?

My top five: buggrabber/bugsack, addon control panel, nUI, carbonite, and Chocolate Bar.
My next nine: adibags, altoholic, fishing buddy, gupPet, lightheaded, outfitter, postal, skada, tidy plates.

I consider pretty much everything else to be a "nice to have".

Nice list, I was using Carbonite too, but I had some issues with notes in fog, some quests missing wrong NPC places and I uninstalled it. Although I think its a very good add on, one of the bests. I'm testing TomTom, seeing if I can get used to it... Hope they continue developing and improving carbonite

I'd say that whatever time you need is acceptable. The problem I see for Authors who are maintaining big addons is that the other players forget that you guys and gals also have real lives and are not just playin the game.
I maintain a rather simple addon, but not on the game a lot. I'm behind on just making minor changes for "Out of Date". If you don't have a lot of time to devote to fixing bugs and it takes a couple of weeks to work it out, then it is what it is. I believe it is better to take your time to fix the bugs, if and when one happens, then rush to make the whiners happy. The Authors who learn how to write the scripts for addons, and spend countless hours writing the programs don't deserve to be harassed for not instantly fixing a bug.
Take as much time as is needed. Ignore those who complain but can't write their own addon.

Carbonite doesn't work for me at all :(
 
I've downloaded the Beta and it doesn't work for me whatsoever.I try to open the map and nothing comes up,there's no list for the quests or anything!
