I need help with a monitor problem

I have a 27" PJL0547B0244 ViewSonic used for a pc monitor. It started to have bands across the screen flashing when I turn it on. After a day or so it will shut itself back off a few times before it 'warms' up and stays on.If it is still flickering and I open a web page, the whole bottom of the screen is darkened...that goes away if I close the web. Then it progress's the the point that I can't turn it off unless I unplug it.

Can't afford a new one :( . I have tried with ViewSonic tech support but they are at a loss too....and told me to get it repaired.

Have you tried hooking it up to a different computer?

Does the monitor have a distinct odor or sound when it turns on?

I've tried the monitor on 3 computers, no strange color or odor. At the momnet I have a 19" hooked up with no problems.

Had that problem on my wife's computer before her video card crapped out.
Could be the video card is at it's end.

Happening on 3 pc's, I really....really hope that the vid cards are o.k. ....works fine on a 19" though.

If it's happening on 3 different pc's I'm guessing it's not a card problem but something internal to the monitor itself. If you have a game console hook it up to the monitor and see if you get the same or similar result. Since your 19" is working fine, I'm positive it has to be the other monitor.

did you try changing the cable used to connect it to the computers?

might be that the cable is broken.

This was my next line of thought, if output is good, that narrows the search to the monitor or cables -- I dealt with a similar problem with a client that had a TV suddenly dimming.
