Reminder to Authors

/edit Given that it is due to happen on Tuesday 5 Dec 06, we'd like to recommend that authors not upload to the 2.0 Beta category any longer but instead just update their "live" versions at this point. Just put a temporary disclaimer at the top of your description stating that this version is for 2.0 and not to use it on live servers before Tuesday.

As you update your live versions, feel free to send a PM to one of the site staff with a link to the 2.0 Beta section version and we will delete it for you so as to avoid confusion.

Since it's likely going to happen within the next couple of weeks: just a quick reminder that when 2.0 goes live, we will be deleting the 2.0 Beta download category. At that point you will need to go back to the standard practice of updating the "live" version with your 2.0 updated version.

Current word from Blizzard is 5 Dec for the patch.

Thanks for the heads up :)

Hmm, maybe rename the beta category to 2.0 *compatible* mods? Since all the current Live mods will break themselves or worse, break other mods without leaving a trace, it's better to let everything in that category die instead.

IMHO, this will lead to more patch-day hysteria than necessary. Addons that work with 2.0 are already uploaded in that category -- if it's deleted, all that will be visible on patch day are old mods that almost certainly don't work on 2.0... and authors will be scrambling to re-upload the same stuff they've already posted during patch-day traffic.

I'd recommend:
  • On patch day, move all existing addons not in the 2.0 Beta UIs category to the Outdated Mods category.
  • And at best:
    1. Between now and Tuesday, create subcategories in the 2.0 Beta UIs category mirroring the normal addon categories and allow authors to move their currently-uploaded 2.0-compatible addons into these categories.
    2. On patch day, move everything that's in 2.0 Beta subcategories to the corresponding top-level categories.
  • or at the very least, leave the 2.0 Beta UIs category up so that users have something to download when they go looking on patch day.

Either way... great job with all the work you've done helping authors get ready for 2.0!

We aren't going to be deleting it that day, give us credit with having more sense than that please.
