From an Usability Standpoint if you create some kind of Contrast between the background and the Status bar (no matter the color order) It makes total sense. If both colors are dark, there is no visual aid of any kind. For me Information > Looks.
I might try that though, the brightest color as the background. :]
But I do like colorful UI's!
