This was possible early on in the game with an early version of RDX, you could lock someone's target or automatically assign it to lock onto a target given a certain parameter, imagine how amazing it was in BWL (for that matter, imagine how awesome that would be now. <_<).

That's why Blizzard made targetting and spellcasting protected functions in patch 2.0. Back then, as long as the code was run by a hardware event, you could do almost anything to take control of another player's character.
