I looked into this some time ago. It's easy enough to make a chat filter that insert the appropriate color coding, as the item ID is included in the link. The problem is that you won't be able to get the item quality if the item isn't cached, and then you have to either not color it, or filter the message and print it when item info is retrieved, which might be complicated.
