If you want to check out
Raven on this site, it gets around this problem with an "in-combat" bar. You can read about it towards the bottom of the page in the "Cancelling Buffs" section.
Another addon is
Satrina Buff Frames uses an "Interactive Frame." So that you have a section of sorted/filtered buffs and a section that you can click off (although this addon hasn't been updated recently).
