Yep head count works well. The only downside is it can only track loot given to people if you are in the vicinity of the people receiving them.
I manage the SK list for our raids and I have to keep a manual list of items and who gets them for our website as headcount doesn't always record loot allocations as I am usually still near the dead body while the recipient is almost heading towards the next boss.
