Thanks for the feedback folks. The result of my troubleshooting today:

I checked over running processes and my wife's computer actually has less free memory while wow is playing than mine. The only apps running in background different between them is she has Firefox and I have Chrome. Both closed, same result.

Drivers for the graphics cards (same cards) are same version. Same with DirectX files.

It seems once I dropped that 8x multisampling and the sound reverb, my framerates are still slightly lower than hers but my game seems just as smooth. It's almost like the FPS is being reported incorrectly (using SLDataText to monitor). Even when I'm running at only 45 FPS and she is at 59 FPS, both games run just as smooth - and I've got both machines pushing max graphics settings and the distance set to 1600. I guess I've got nothing to complain about really.

But, for future reference, even a powerful rig like mine shouldn't be playing WoW at 8x multisampling on dual 1920 monitors!
