Simple Minimap

I'd like to convert the minimap into a compass. Hopefully this can be done by scaling the Y-axis while leaving the X-axis alone.

Since I don't know lua, I was hoping someone could direct me to a simple minimap mod. I'm hoping that after looking at their code, I can learn how to hook the minimap and impose changes on its display.
