Sorry guys, but I see it like this. If you are going to solicit money from people then people will have a higher expectation of the level of service you should provide.
If it were just a small amount then ya, you're probably right that it shouldn't be a big deal, but...

Lets look at it this way.

Curse = nearly 1.8 MILLION downloads
Let's be conservative and say they have had 1 Million downloads here and another million on carboniteaddon.com
That's nearly 4 Million downloads
Let's say just 1% of those donated at their minimum of $5.
That's nearly $200,000 they possible made.

So, yea. I'm going to hold them to a higher standard than the guy offering true freebies.
And they could (and should) easily log in and post a message to the probably minimum 10's of thousands of players out there that rely on their product.

Ty Ty Ty Ty

I have been using Carbonite since I first started WoW and I was already expecting it to be broken when 5.0.4 hit, so thank you Ry for the fan update, I had the damn stock maps and quest tracker

I have bookmarked your page and am now checking back on a normal basis for updates. You Da Man!!

Thank You Very Much!!!

Rythal, Great work! I was totally lost without the Carbonite map. You da Man!
I have not experienced any of the reported issues and I have been testing all of them. Using 50403.
Although I have only enabled Carbonite (Not: Items, Nodes, or Transfer)

There's one glaring fault with your math: Carbonite, whether from carboniteaddon.com or wowinterface.com, gets downloaded from the exact same page: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info12965-Carbonite.html. The numbers you're estimating won't add up.

Rythal, I need your help.

I am not so good at speaking English.

I translate your source.

One NPC is translation Success.
If more than one NPC is does not translation.

------------- This source, how do I fix?
local ven=CarboniteItems["Sources"][i]
s=format(L["Vendor: %s"],_NPC(ven))
--------------------------------------------

local L = Carbonite_Strings
local function _NPC(s) if not NPC_Strings and Quest_Strings then return s end return NPC_Strings[s] or Quest_Strings[s] or s end

ex)
VendorA_Name:
Korea translation: Korea VendorA name OK

VendorA_Name, VendorB_Name, VendorC_Name:
Korea not translation.

Look forward to hearing your advice.

A few stuff seems to be blocked by the Blizzard UI but this definately got me back on track with quests. On the map, the icons blink though, but hey, it's pretty darn good!

Rythal.. YO DA MAN!!!!!!

I love the fact that it works again (at least as far as i have seen..) I do have one problem, that you may have said how to fix, but i missed it if you did.

The carbonite mini map... If i mouse over it, then it shows all the detail, and is nice and clear... but as SOON as i move the mouse away, the map goes back to the 'area' map (showing the location name, and hiding all the detail...

What i mean is that mouse off, its almost like looking at the continent map... you have the areas showing... mose over the minimap, and it changes to the individual zone map...

Is there a way to stop the transition, and have iot keep itself as zone map until zoomed out?

check your map transparency settings, more specifically overlay in that menu if I remember right (at work so can't check lol). It's most likely setf for / going to 0 when you mouse out.

Question

I'm not sure if this is a bug or just something I never really had to change before with Carbonite but I noticed that when I use 'M' to make carb's map full screen and then zoom out to see the whole continent I can no longer mouse over other zones and see the zone map. I can zoom in and see the google detail stuff but not the zone map. I'm not sure if I am describing the problem accurately or if I have my settings messed up or what but I thought I'd put this out there.

Also, thank you so much for making this fan update and I sincerely hope the devs are not mad at you for saving the rest of us Carb fans from the misery of a broken carbonite.

are you using any other addons that do anything with maps? I had this problem during testing because another addon was grabbing map control, even tho carbonite still showed it's map, I couldn't hover over and see the overlay.

The fix was usually /reloadUI to kickstart it working again, until I figured out which addon was causing it to stop.

ill 2nd that, if your gonna put your stuff out there, acquire tons of faithful followers, i would think its an obligation to maintain and update your product. especially working with/ or through curse. we as players- who pay damn good money to play arent really asking for much, just stuff that works. so what im saying is, if they have other and/or more important things going on, go do them. quit halfassing us around. rythal, who is a player, also has a real job, still took the time to fix their ****, even with his real life stuff happening and not expecting anything in return- except maybe alittle acknowledgement and thanks. from what ive been reading- all the work hes put into this, is very very unselfish. as far as im conserned the DEVS and curse and blizz should take a good look at him and raise the bar for their employees, because rythal has put them all in check. Rythal, my brother, if your ever in Zul`jin look me up. Móurnblade. you are top notch dude and i would be honored to run some PVP with ya. peace

This. So very much this.

I seriously was poised to donate once the official Carbonite came back out, but since (a) 5.041 is a buggy mess compared to the unofficial 5.004007, and (b) the Devs' attitude to the fan update is really *not* positive, when IMHO they should have thanked Rythal and possibly worked off his version for the next new version (since Rythal's version, you know, *works*).... I'm holding off my donation for now.

I understand the devs have their own lives and tasks, but when someone else puts functional bandaids on their product, and their response is to basically violently rip off said bandaids and put their *own* bandaids on only a few of the re-opened sores in the name of "it's ours, and Rythal shouldn't have touched it"...yeah, that's not exactly fostering good relations with the end users.

Fact of the matter is, a fan took it upon himself to update it *for now* so we'd have something that works. That fact can't be undone, and mark my words, other fans are circulating Rythal's latest version even now, despite Rythal no longer doing the same. That genie's not going back in the bottle.

The smart thing to do would be to take Rythal's update, and work out the remaining bugs from there, not ignore it simply because he's not part of CBC. That just smacks of elitism and selfishness.

What is needed, is for CBC to add Rythal as a dev. Rythal has the time, dedication, and is still an active player. The solution now, just seems obvious.

keep in mind, Rythal's update is meant to work in conjunction with the official Carbonite 4.3, which is no longer available.

debated on saying this or not, but guess it doesn't hurt... the fan update will work against the official 5.041 since it's all the same as 4.3 except a couple changes in one of the files mine replaced.
