What are they wearing?

This suddenly struck me as I saw a priest trainer in Darnassus wearing a robe one of my chars is wearing as town wear.

I'm assuming many, maybe all the robes, armour etc. worn by townfolks, guards and NPCs are using similar models as the stuff worn by your character. I also know many people, myself included take great are taking great case in how they look and looking for stuff that macthes their perfect (town) outfit.

Would it be possible to make a mod that would allow you to "inspect" these people and browse over their stuff, to show which game items use the same model?

Would you mind telling us why it isn't possible?
Isn't there any way to atleast check which 3D-models the character is wearing, then check wich items that are using that model and then list them in some sort of popup window on the screen?
