Post TK Undead Gothic UI Theme version 1.1.2005

Wow Undead Gothic UI Theme

Updates:

Latest updates and information:

* November, 10 2005

Updates/Fixes in Version 1.1.2005

- Fixed offset borders.
- Completed tabbed dialog art conversion. (one tab was previously not converted to undead art)
- Replaced many more UI pieces with Undead Gothic art.
- Added a clean (without border design) parchment to Quest Log panel.

Previous notes:

This UI was designed to be a simple themed graphics swap-out, as not to break add-ons. I didn't want it to be overstated or understated, so hopefully I found a balance that is somewhere between the two. I really like the default Wow UI, Blizzard did an absolutely fantastic job designing it.

This is really last minute stuff, as I've been working on several different games at once (3 of them), and have been in-out of town during the last stretch. There are a LOT of pieces to the Wow UI, too many to completely replace at first pass, but the initial release for Halloween will have enough of the UI changed graphically to enjoy the theme. I will come back and make major overall improvements to it of course.

There are going to be 2 different types of Menu decorations available, the skull and candles are just 1 of the two.

Design comments:

Rather than borrow from previous Warcraft art, such as the Warcraft RTS interface skins. I incorporated my own style within the existing framework, without having to exadurate features to leap out at you. I really wanted a clean Undead skin that didn't distract away from the game enviroment, but rather conveyed a dark-muted haunted-cemetary-like palette. (If anyone is planning to - or has used previous WC1-3 RTS UI art for Wow UI's, this is not intended as a negative comment, but rather to simply state I wish to use my own style.)

The screenshot has side-by-sides so you can see what I mean. Some possible additions later on include animations, such as glowing candles. Again, this is a very quick swap-out graphical theme. Much more elaborate designs are on the horizon. Another has already been started.

This skin is working now, and should be released soon with in-game screenshots.

Two great people: Kuvasie and Tain are working with me on this project, we're working hard now making any last minute additions.

Thank you.

Quick swapout? Last minute stuff??

Good lord, you make it seem so easy.

This is great, keep em coming! I missed your stuff since I quit EQ so long ago.

Thank you, and yes it has been crazy all month for me. I've received countless emails from people who have followed my work over the years, requesting skins for Wow. I hope that this skin does not disappoint, due to the tough time constraints.

Many may feel that this skin is more suitable for players of Horde, but hopefully people will be in the Halloween spirit and give it try - as it is really neat to see in-game. I play a Night-Elf Druid myself, and love this theme since it's not overstated, blends into Wow perfectly.

When the skin is up, there should be an official front-page announcement, I just wanted to drop a quick preview in - since many had asked about it at the Austin Game Conference. I had mentioned that it should be up by this past Friday, but the plan is really just to have it ready by or before Halloween.

Thank you for following my work back in EQ, I had a ton of fun making those skins. This was before all the design contraints, and being told to do things differently than the way I would have. I'm still trying to shake off those negative influences that had held me back until very recently.

This is extremely awsome. I dont have any undead characters and im really not fussed over halloween, but im so going to use this when you release it. Im also very curious to see what your other design is, weather it has a more generic theme, rather than an undead theme. You have great talent in Photoshop (asuming thats what you used) and im glad to see you have used it for a great purpose. Keep it up, this is a winner!

hmm.. little help

I have installed the UI and it looks sweet...

One thing though is that in your snap shot of the ui you have a side tool bar and it looks like the mouse curser has an arrow with a skull on it.. When I installed the UI the mouse curser did not change and i can't for the life of me get the side tool bar up...

If i did something wrong let me know so i can fix it. also if there is some sort of options menu to turn on the right side tool bar i can't seem to find it. To let you know i only have one mod other then yours installed and that is Scrolling combat Text...

You haven't done anything wrong. The picture is just a representation and the side bars were left in thier original form as was the cursor. If I am feeling up to it, there may be one more update to include the auction and tradeskills windows.

Hi Tuwa,
Do you mean that the World of Warcraft\Data folder only has a Cinematics folder in it now, and no other files? The Data folder should have a number of other files in it (I have 19) MPQ files for the game with names like base.MPQ, fonts.MPQ, interface.MPQ, or depending on your system it might just look like base, fonts, interface without the MPQ showing at the end. Then there should be an Interface folder with the updated Undead UI files. If those other files are not there then I think your only option is to reinstall.
The addon doesn't overwrite those files at all, it has different file names entirely, and puts them into the World of Warcraft\Data\Interface folder, so I'm not sure how your other files could have gone missing.

If that's not what your Data folder looks like, can you tell me exactly what's in there and we'll try to get you back up and running ASAP?

Sometime ago a friend told me, that on his Mac Notebook, he extracted an Addon to Interface\Addons ... he got asked if he wants to overwrite the existing data, and like used to from Windows he just said "yes". But, his Mac OS not only replaced the last "Interface\Addons\Addonname"-folder... instead it replaced the full "Interface\Addons"-path leaving only the just extracted addon in there, all that was not in the just extracted zip got deleted from his "Interface\Addons"-path.

Not sure if it's allways that way on a Mac, I have no experience with Mac ... but if you happen to have a Mac, I guess the same happened to your Data folder -- and the only chance is a reinstall of WoW in this case.

I was wondering, has this one been patched with the cursor? I've installed all the files and everything is looking VERY sweet! I just don't see a change in the cursor. I did a search in this post to see if I maybe did something wrong but all I could find was a post saying something about maybe adding it in.

I also did a search in the night elf theme to see if maybe I could find the answer there. I did manage to find a post that said the night elf theme indeed includes the cursor art. So any such luck for the undead theme?

(no bliz ui kit installed currently - took it out to get this to work)

At this point the cursor is *not* enabled in either theme. The intended graphics are shown as examples.

none

I'm curious as to which .blp converter you're using.
I can't seem to find any decent blp converters.
I haven't been able to find anything documented in any of the release notes.

thanks in advance

If you installed the mod, one has to presume you read the instructions, since it isn't installed the same way as most. If you read the instructions, one has to presume that you would realize you need to delete them from the same place you put them ... \World of Warcraft\Data\Interface. One would presume you realize that you need to delete the folders within that folder.

One also has to presume that if you completely deleted and reinstalled WoW, you would have nothing more than the default files. Unless of course when you say that you completely deleted and reinstalled, you mean that you didn't delete it, you just installed it a second time and thus have two copies of it on your computer and are trying to run it from the old copy that has the mod installed.

And if you had merely come here 4 days ago and asked nicely, someone would have helped you.
