Is the map optional?

Due to my problems with getting the minimized Carbonite map from staying on my screen after viewing the enlarged map (see here: http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=27592 ) I am thinking about going back to AlphaMap for my map addon needs. If I disable the Carbonite map features will I still get the quest tracking features? I'm okay with losing the color "blotches" as they weren't that helpful anyway.

The Quest Window, Watch List and HUD arrow will still function if the Carb map is hidden.
