Is there a way in Grid to put the names above the Bar, not inside the Bar?

You can with Grid2. I'm not aware of a way to do it easily with Grid though.

No, as that is outside the scope of Grid's design goals. You could edit the code yourself, or write a plugin to hook Grid's internals and forcibly alter them, but basically, if that's the kind of raid frames you want, then your needs would probably be better met with some other addon that was actually written to meet the needs of people who want that kind of layout.
