Override Blizzard Template

Newbie question here, it is possible to override an entire blizzard template?
For example "FrameXML/FloatingChatFrame.xml", i want to change textures and add frames to this template.
I know i can do it in lua, but if there is a way to override the template it's better.
Thanks!

All frames using those templates are created before any addons are loaded, so even if we could change them, they wouldn't take effect anyway. It's been a long time since I've tested for this, so I'm not entirely sure. I don't think frame templates have a presence in the Lua environment and as such, can't be modified. Font templates may be a different story and their changes can be propagated. However, I've only tested them by creating font objects from Lua and not XML templates, inherited them, then changed the base object colors as an example.
