Chat window disappears until /reloadui

I'm not sure what triggers it and I haven't spotted anything in bugger or anything but the chat window will completely disappear until I reload the ui. I won't be able to see what anyone is saying and it's especially annoying in dungeons.

Is there anything I can do about this? I didn't spot another thread about it.
