"Hijacking" a frame's template inheritance?

I'm not really doing anything with this notion. This is more of a passing thought.

Is it possible in the lua environment to "hijack" a frame's inherits=" " designation?

What I am thinking, (and I believe a few other's out there might be interested in as well ), is that this ability could dramatically ease the pain of doing a complete skin conversion of the UI.

Assuming of course that a given frame utilizes a template inheritance that contains textural references; If we could redirect to a template of our own creation, it stands to reason that the sky could very quickly (and relatively easily) become the limit on total graphical re-works of even many of the default UI elements, from the chat frame to a status bar texture.

<shrug>

Just a random musing.

Any thoughts? Even just to shoot me down and edumacate me?
