Your whole UI has a sharp, crisp feeling and the fuzzy outline of the chat font really clashes with it. It basically stands out as a huge sore spot in an otherwise very well matched UI. I'd suggest using a simple shadow instead of outline or adding a panel behind it.

So much font hate

1px borders <3 1px font outlines imo which means monochrome, which means pixel font. An who says chat can't be pixel font? There are some fine examples.

(I think 2px+ outlines <3 regular font outlines ala ALZA )

And yeah, taste, preference, subjectivity, etc. I like the "it's all subjective but your way sucks" argument.

Meh, this was not my argument. I hope it didn't seem so.

Really, I would love to use pixelfonts in an UI, but I can't stand looking at them. I see the benefits, though.

My argument, as it should be read: When you mix pixel- and non-pixel-fonts, make sure it fits in its overall look'n'feel. Which is exactly, what I'm missing in Haleth's shot. I do think this can be overcome by selecting another chat-font.

Some pixel fonts need to be set to monochrome, and set -1 size lower to get their best spacing. Others just have bad spacing no matter what you do.

Was it so bad then? -.-*

To be honest, I barely used my chat for info I need to know on the fly.

edit: Damn seeing my UI wants me to play with it again.

excluding the dps meter and leveling guide, i managed to get a 1px border for everything

rDiabloPlates now supports nameplate and font scaling, aswell as positioning (moving nameplates up/down)
Using a helper frame finally made the point. Thus spreadnameplates can now be used again without huge screen clutter.

Scaling is set to 0.82. Comparsion to scale 1: http://www.abload.de/img/wowscrnshot_022611_005573q.jpg

I really like khanggs UI and Led's UI.

They are quite different in their style, but both serve their purpose really well.

Personally I would go for Led's UI with some modifications (which is what I have actually).

I disagree with having a pixel font for the chat though as that's just 2 much text to have that small.

I focus my entire UI with my chat font(Myriad Pro Semibold) while unitframes/castbars/nameplates/bossbars/buffs uses a pixel font. Mainly because it fits the 1 pixel border style and takes up a lot less space.

Anyways, not sure what you mean about the pixel font. Fairly sure the spacing is at its minimum, and as you can see it's already using monochrome outline.

Afaik SetSpacing(x) is vertical, not horizontal.
Only fierce because I see bad UI advice given so often with so little thought put into it. The chat font should never be a pixel font. The chat font is about readability. Pixel fonts are for fitting in small UI real-estate where contrast is very important (and where normal fonts fall short).

SetSpacing(x) has nothing to do with character spacing, but line spacing. His pixel font has a bad 2px spacing set onto it. Sometimes this is simply due to the font itself, sometimes it is due to a combination of the MONOCHROME mod and the font size. My pixel font of choice, without MONOCHROME, has teh same 2px spacing, while under MONOCHROME and set to -1 size lower, has 1px spacing and looks much better, thus my suggestion.

Now, now... Some people can read pixel fonts just fine. Customized UIs are all about the *user's* preference.

Anyway, it seems I'm going to have to state again that this thread is not the location to debate pixel fonts.

??

Being able to read them and readability are two different things.

Trouble is screenshot feedback is where it comes up most.

Not sure if a dedicated thread can sustain itself, but for anyone interested, debate pixel fonts here.
