I have a suggestion: With archaology nodes recorded in the Carbonite database make a "best guess" to where the correct survey is based on the survey-equipment direction and color. (you might possible have to face the direction and press a corresponding color on some sort of interface)

Hum... On a german game client carbonite does nothing when "guide to artefact" is selected. There simply seems to be no data. Looting some Fragments does not change anything. Still nothing displayed. Not even locations just detected. Simply nothing.

Ok, just got a clue from another thread... Probably Archy is messing this up. Going to test this...

Uhm... Nope. Works when client is set to english but no nodes are stored when client is set to german. Archy is turned off. Archy has the same problems... Only works efficiently on english clients.

I don't think an addon can retrieve that information from the game.

While on the topic of the archaeology module of Carb is there any chance the boundary's of the dig sites could be drawn on the carbonite map? On the default map it shows the colored area of the dig site the same as their quest helper does. With carb you can only see the dig site icon and to make things more interesting that vanishes once you zoom in to just that zone. If possible it would be idea if you could grab the borders from the default UI but at least setting the icon to remain when the map is zoomed in would help.

Thanks for the data, but can you email the entire SavedVariables\Carbonite.lua file to [email protected]

That is because line 42 in Localization.lua:
NXlARTIFACTS = "Searching for Artifacts"

needs to be:
NXlARTIFACTS = "Suche nach Artefakten"

This change will be in the next version (a beta).

You could change it yourself, if you don't want to wait.

Minimap Button Frame and other similar addons

To stop these addons from taking the dig site and fragment node icons from the minimap, add the following two items to their protected items list:

ArchyBlob
ArchyMinimapPOI
I just added these:
["ArchyBlob"] = true,
["ArchyMinimapPOI"] = true,

to the Localization.lua

As the Author of Archy fixed the Carbonite-related Problem with 1.6.0 this is not neccessary.
1.6.3 works great with Carbonite for me, without changing anything in the Localization.lua.

Would rather carbonite's "mini-world map" show digsites (red area; not the shovel). Bit bothersome to have to hit ALT M to bring up...well...actually I don't know who's map that is, but it uses Blizzard's world map so the digsites (red area) show up.

Suggestion

I would be very appreciative if one of two things was changed to allow Archaeology nodes to be displayed in a more permanent fashion on the map.
  1. Add a toggle to enable/disable Guide items being removed from the map every time you reach or clear a goto.
  2. Allow Archaeology nodes to be displayed on the map using a toggle similar to how all Herb/Mining nodes can be displayed, rather than displaying them like a specific type of Herb/Ore through the Guide.
    This change could be expanded upon in future to treat each Arch node as a specific race rather than a generic item, similar to how different Herbs/Ores are treated.

I just find it slightly annoying that every time I reach or clear a goto target, all my Archaeology nodes have to be turned back on through the Guide.

I gave up on using Carbonite when I'm doing Archeology. It would seem that it's a hell of a lot easier to Alt + M and use the default Blizz map.

4.033 has that. Right click a non icon area of map, select Show and check "Show Artifact Locations" to permanently show them.

Click "Import Carbonite Nodes Misc (artifacts, gas) locations" on the Guide page of the Options window to import the 2100 artifact locations from CarboniteNodes.

The 2100 artifact locations from CarboniteNodes appears to be most of them, so if they are shown, you can easily see the areas on the Carb map.

Looking good! Now I'm just hoping for that arrow to tell me which way the closest active digsite is.

Its not that carbonite doesn't know where the dig-sites are, since it clearly marks the shovel on the map.

I just wish it would put the red blob overlay into the map so you know if you stray outside of the area. The Blobs stand out much easier than the shovels do.
