Nope.

All the information is available on the site, free, no tricks, no nothing.

But while you're on the site, you also happen to be exposed to the "this is donation-supported, please consider buying me a burger" thing.

It's a matter of intent and structure. You could do something sorta like that which was sleazy and really trying to charge for an addon, or you could just play it legit, make everything free, and hope your site causes people to send you money.

You know, I really don't understand why all of this has me so damned angry. I'm not an addon author (sure, I have created an addon or few, but nothing I deem worthwhile to be uploaded), none of this really has any impact on me. I would literally fistfight a few of the people on the Blizzard forums right now, because of their entitlement theories and author bashing... I really can't figure out why this angers me so much.

If I were an addon author, reading all of this entitlement garbage and level of respect shown by Blizzard, I know for a fact I'd pull the plug on public access to my work. Not because I am greedy, not because Blizzard is greedy and evil, hell, you could name a hundred reasons that would not fit save one, principle.

If I don't stand for principle, the "who I am" starts to fade away, and I can't live like that, personally.

To the authors who keep their work up, and those who pulled it. I have a great admiration for both groups for the reason I suspect you did it... Principle.

I think what we need here is someone willing to distribute an addon whose sole purpose is to display ****ographic donation requests, censored with Pepsi adverts which can be removed for a one-time $0.01 payment. Ensure the download link is behind legal standard disclaimers for adult websites, so there'd be no grounds there.

Until we see signs of enforcement, we really have no idea what they intend to actually do... Just hints that they don't want us talking about it on the official forums.

Don't care about the users. Be selfish and do this **** for your own pleasure and nothing else. When you do that, you really don't give a crap about the idiot users that have entitlement issues, you don't care what Blizzy says you can't do (just when they outright disable), and there's really no "principal" to stand up for beyond "leave me the **** alone".

Yea, I know, I'm a total ******* because of that :P

*edit* and there are days I *really* hate the censorship here, it totally ruins the point I'm trying to make.

I've been watching a lot of BSG, and the word "frak" has nearly replaced the censored version in my vocabulary. Sadly, my self image has been greatly injured by this

I have nothing vested in this. As you all know I don't code. Which trust me is a code thing. A very code thing... I would probably melt the servers or something.

Anyhoo I think one of the main reasons that I got so bloody pissed was because all of the entitlement generations seemed to come out on the wow forums.

You know the ones who think that everything in life should be handed to them. That work is what others do while they talk. The same ones that complain that the game is to hard or this class is to tough...

Then you have the ones that do not realize how much time you all spend on it.. the coding the debuging and then the questions that could have been answered if the person read the faq....

So I say for all those that do not get it... Thank you for your time, effort, and knowledge. You make WoW a much more fun game for me. If I could I would send you all home made cookies.

And Yhor keep giving them hell over there on the forums *giggles*

Yeah, the entitlement people are maddening. I am okay with Blizzard saying "we really don't want this to be a commercial market, don't do that". I'm not sure about their legal grounds, but hey, it's their sandbox, I'm basically okay with respecting those boundaries whether or not they're enforceable.

I'm not nearly so okay with all the people showing up to brag about how much it serves the stupid addon authors right, and how these people never deserved anything for "piggy-backing" on WoW. Sheesh.
