What's the best way to handle alpha/beta releases?

What's the best way to handle alpha/beta releases? I don't seem to see any way of marking a release as being alpha/beta quality.

You can either upload it as a separate addon in the Beta category, or you can upload it to your release addon and mark the file as a Beta. If you do the latter, the file will not replace the main download, but will appear on a separate Beta tab (much like the Archived tab). The only downside to doing it that way is that it won't flag your project as having been updated, so many people won't know that there is a Beta version available.
