Find the following file:

...World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/ACCNAME/SERVER/CHARNAME/layout-local.txt

Inside there is a bunch of configuration for the layout of various UI elements, including the chat box. Copy the section starting with 'Frame: ChatFrame1' and ending with 'H: 113' (these numbers are likely to be different for you). For me, it looks like this:

'Frame: ChatFrame1
FrameLevel: 0
Anchor: BOTTOMLEFT
X: 13
Y: 12
W: 312
H: 113'

Paste all of this into the 'layout-local.txt' which is inside your new character's folder. I hope I have explained this clearly enough. Good luck!

Try copying layout-local.txt from an existing character's WTF folder to your new character's. That is an item generally handled by the client, rather than chat addons (or at least, I can't get prat to save that information either).

Or like Wella said much more clearly :P

You're welcome. I only figured that out myself because you asked for it, so I learned something in the process, too!

Oooor... You could use a chat addon like Prat and just copy the profile.

Prat doesn't control your chat frame size and placement anyhow. (I don't know of a chat mod that does, since it's in the default UI anyway.)

With prat you can set minimums and maximums to sort of control the size but its not automatic, you have to resize the frame. Then it jumps to the settings if you have min and max the same.
